Schooling races for the new crop of 2-year-olds will begin Wednesday at Retama Park.

SELMA, TX–FEBRUARY 5, 2024–Retama Park will host 14 schooling races for two-year-olds on Wednesday. Post time for the first race is noon (CST).

Ninety-five juveniles, headed by a number top "summer sale" graduates from TQHA, Heritage Place, Ruidoso and LQHBA will make their career debuts at 250 yards.

Forty-two sires will be represented including first crop stallions Gold Heart Eagle V and Chilitos.

The two highest-sellers starting in Wednesday schooling races will face each other in the 11th race, Joose Boxx, a $100,000 repurchase at the TQHA Yearling Sale and Draco, a $94,000 TQHA graduate. Both horses come from barn of leading trainer Juan Diaz, Jr.

Racing for owner Javier De Los Santos Muzquiz, Joose Boxx is a son of leading sire Kiss My Hocks from the Big Daddy Cartel mare Cd Daddys Home. The second dam is All American Futurity(1) runner-up Dash Of Perry the dam of Sunland Park Winter Futurity(G2) winner Templar Knight and stakes-placed Sprinster. This is the family of champion Tiny First Down.

Purchased by Triple Five, Draco is the first foal of four-time world champion sire FDD Dynasty from the stakes winning Apollitical Jess mare Mystical Jess. The third dam is stakes winner Juana Mystia a half-sister to stakes winner Classified Dash.

On Friday (Feb 9), Louisiana Downs will host schooling races for two-year-olds eligible for the upcoming Louisiana Downs Futurity trials. Mardi Gras Futurity-eligibles will run in schooling races on Saturday.  Programs for these races will be posted when they become available.
