OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—JANUARY 20, 2012—The Heritage Place Winter Mixed Sale kept the momentum going in the Quarter Horse Racing business through day two on Friday in Oklahoma City. Last year the Winter Mixed Sale was the company's highest grossing sale in their 34-year history, grossing more than $9.34 million.

"It appears we are holding strong," Heritage Place General Manager Jeff Tebow said late Friday. "I continue to hear from both consignors and buyers what a 'Great Sale' we are having."

Through five sessions, in two days, the 688 horses sold grossed $6,729,550 and averaged $9,781. The median was $5,000. Ninety-one horses were repurchased for $925,000. Total gross receipts through Friday are $7,654,550.

Be Peaceful, dam of world champion Be A Bono and Governor's Cup Futurity(RG1) winner Peace Fire topped the second day when Luis Alvarez had the final bid of $165,000 for Hip 476. Roger Daly, Agent for Childers Ranch, LLC consigned the 17-year-old daughter of Raise A Secret. She was not bred to carry a foal for 2012, but does have an embryo due by leading sire Walk Thru Fire.

Vince Genco, Agent purchased Hip 587, Corona Perfection, for $80,000 from Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent for George Lucas, Jr. The stakes-placed Corona Cartel mare is the dam of Grade 1 winner and Remington Park track record holder Louisiana Senator and Golden State Million Futurity(G1) finalist Jess Charming. The 13-year-old mare was not bred to carry a foal for 2012, but has an embryo due by 2010 World Champion Apollitical Jess.

The high-selling 'short' yearling through two days was Hip 740, Corona Firewater, purchased by Terry Stennet for $70,000 from Lady E Ranch, LLC, Agent for Hal Earnhardt III. The colt by leading sire Corona Cartel is out of Oklahoma Derby(G3) winner Alogonquin, by Invisible Injun.

Bobby Cox continues as the sales leading buyer through two days with three head for $397,000. Luis Alvarez has three for $225,000 and Vaughn Cook and Thomas Bradbury have purchased four head for $146,000.

Lazy E Ranch, Agent for La Feliz Montana Ranch Complete Dispersal continues as the sales leading consignor with 64 head sold on day-1 for $1,444,300 and the Bobby Cox Herd Reduction, also on Thursday, sold 67 head for $671,800. Laze E Ranch, Agent has sold 37 head for $424,600.

Through day-2, Corona Cartel is the leading sire of "short" yearlings, by average, with two at $62,500. Champion and second year sire FDD Dynasty has two head averaging $22,850 and #2 Leading First Crop Sire of 2011 Valiant Hero sold two for $18,500. Foose leads all first crop sires with five head averaging $16,000.

Grade 2 winner Coronas Leaving You, whose first crop will race in 2012, is the leading covering sire through two days with four mares averaging $25,800. Teller Cartel has three at $24,333 and Carters Cartel, who will also have his first crop race in 2012, had five mares average $21,200.

The final day, of the three-day sale, will kickoff Saturday morning with the announcements of the 2011 APHA and ApHC Running Champions. At 9:45 a.m. a Stallion Service auction benefiting injured jockey Jack Martin will be held.

Saturday's sale will begin promptly at 10:00 a.m. with the final Quarter Horse session, Hips 845 thru 1189. Immediately following will by a Paint Session (Hips 1190—1198) and a Thoroughbred Session (Hips 1199—1265).
