VINTON, LA—AUGUST 5, 2025—A full slate of promising juveniles will take center stage at Delta Downs on Friday night when the track hosts seven trials for the $200,000-est. Big Easy Futurity.
The 350-yard trials, open to two-year-old Quarter Horses, will determine the ten fastest qualifiers for the lucrative final on Friday, August 29. The first post time is set for 6:10 p.m. (CST).
Headlining the evening’s card are Davsam in Race 8 and Swing Time in Race 6, who bring top credentials and blazing speed figures into their respective trials.
Davsam, a son of leading sire Apollitical Jess trained by Viviane Hill, returns to Delta Downs following a dramatic victory in the Grade 2 Firecracker Futurity. He has banked $155,055 with a (4) 2-1-1 record.
Owned by Chance Kiehne, bred by Paul Toonderum, and ridden by Juan F. Garcia, Jr., the talented colt boasts the highest speed index (95) in the field and is the 1-1 morning-line favorite.
Swing Time, a daughter of leading sire Favorite Cartel out of the champion mare Flash and Roll, will break from post 6 in Race 6.
Trained by Jose R. Espinosa and ridden by Oscar Andrade, Jr., the Texas-bred filly was narrowly edged out by Davsam in the Firecracker final and brings a strong resume that includes a 94 speed index and two wins from four starts. An earner of $57,662, she is listed at 6-5 on the morning line for owner Jorge Haddad.
Other standout contenders include Coronados Imagine (2-1), the favorite in Race 2. Trained by Jorge E. Rubio for owner Jose A. Ramos, the Coronado Cartel gelding has earned over $60,000 and finished second in the Old South Futurity and fourth in the Laddie Futurity(RG2) earlier this summer.
Bred in Oklahoma by Richard Joneson, he is owned by Jose Ramos.
Race 4 features a competitive trio led by San Vandido (5-2), trained by Jose Sanchez and ridden by Eddie Sanchez for owner-breeder Omar Arriaga. The San Lorenzo colt has won twice in four starts and recently captured a conditioned allowance at Retama Park. Summertime Dynasty (4-1), a $39,000 Heritage Place graduate by FDD Dynasty, will start for trainer Alex Clark and owner Ebelyn Rojas, while Constelation (5-1), a son of Mr Jess Perry trained by Carlos Turrubiartes, enters off a runner-up finish in a Firecracker trial.
Race 5 includes a pair of intriguing Louisiana-breds. Jess Transcendent (7-1), trained by Gilberto Gonzalez, surged late to win the $75,000 Louisiana Juvenile on July 12. Ridden by Federico Vargas for Guerras Racing Stables, the Heza Fast Rogue colt posted an 84 SI in that effort. He’ll face Kissin James (9-2), a consistent Ivory James gelding trained and owned by Jorge Rubio, who ran in the Mardi Gras Futurity(RG2) in March.
In Race 7, Carlos Sainz (7-2), a supplemental entry, stands out after qualifying for the Laddie Futurity(RG2) earlier this year. Trained by D. Rhodes and ridden by Ricardo Hernandez, the gelding has displayed good tactical speed in his recent efforts.
Meanwhile, in Race 9, Ms Apollitical Tres (5-2) and Bd Macho Man (7-2) offer strong closing kicks. Trained by Kenneth Roberts, Sr. and ridden by Leonardo Rodriguez, Ms Apollitical Tres won her Firecracker trial and qualified for the final. Bd Macho Man, trained by Leonel Hernandez, comes in off a fifth-place finish in the Laddie Futurity(RG2).
With a night of juvenile talent on display and a berth in the August 29 final at stake, Friday’s Big Easy Futurity trials promise high-caliber action and a preview of rising stars in Louisiana Quarter Horse racing.
