Prices Up On Day 1 at TQHA Yearling Sale, Three Head Break Six-Figures

SAN ANTONIO, TX–JULY 28, 2023–The first session of the 2023 TQHA Yearling Sale in San Antonio got underway today with a colt by One Famous Eagle headlining the opener at $155,000.

The day concluded with robust figures up across-the-board compared with day 1 last year There was a 2% uptick in the average to $19,276, while gross receipts increased 12% to $2,660,100 on 138 horses sold.

"We had a very solid first day with an average over $19,000. We have had people looking at horses since Wednesday and had a great crowd," TQHA Executive Director Rob Werstler said. "With the yearlings we will offer tomorrow, I think we have a really good chance of surpassing last year's record numbers".

During the first session, TQHA also reported a median price increase of 8% to $14,500 compared to $13,000 on day 1 in 2022. An RNA rate of 39% represents 54 horses unsold on the first day.

Bobby D. Cox consigned Friday's three sale toppers including Hip #177 Eagle Aye, a One Famous Eagle colt out of Miss Aguilar by Tres Seis. Vista Del Sol, Inc. purchased the half-brother to stakes-placed Grade 1 finalist Mperativ. The second dam is the RG1 winner First Dashin Bye, dam of Sam Houston Futurity(G2) winner Ivan James.

Roger Beasley and Wootan Racing paid $150,000 Hip #168 Mountainaire, a Favorite Cartel colt who is the first foal of AQHA Distaff Challenge Championship(G1) winner Preyn Onthe Mountain by Ivory James.

Cox's Hip #180 Kenetik brought a final bid of $102,000 from Cuadra Los Compadres. The son of leading sire Mr Jess Perry out of Shazumba, by Shazoom, is a half-brother to Sam Houston Juvenile winner and multiple Grade 1 finalist Orbyson and Firecracker Futurity(G2) winner Expedyte. The second dam is Ruidoso Futurity winner and multiple black type producer All About Ease by First Down Dash.

Vista Del Sol Inc. led first day buyers with high-seller purchase of $155,000 and Roger Beasley and Wootan Racing was #2 with their $150,000 yearling. Jose R. Espinosa with third leading buyer on day 1 with two head for $113,000.

Bobby D. Cox led consignors and agent by gross on day 1 with eight head for $542,500. S & E Sales Prepping, Agent had four head gross $137,500 and Bielau Oaks, Agent sold eight head for $132,100.

Favorite Cartel was the leading day 1 sire (by average with two or more sold) with two yearlings averaging $95,000. FDD Dynasty had two sell for $61,500 average and leading first-crop sire Flying Cowboy 123 sold two for a $56,500 average.

Dash For Cash Futurity(G2) winner Chilitos was the leading first-year sale crop sire with two or more sold with 13 yearlings average $18,669.

Saturday's closing session will feature hips 208 thru 414 with also start at 10:00 am.
