GRAND PRAIRIE, TX—OCTOBER 27, 2025—Lone Star Park has announced that live racing will begin earlier than usual on Friday, October 31, and Saturday, November 1, to accommodate the simulcast of the Breeders’ Cup World Championships.
Post time for live races on both days will be 5:45 p.m. (CDT), according to a notice released by the track’s racing department. The adjustment allows racing fans to enjoy both the world-class Breeders’ Cup simulcast action and Lone Star Park’s live racing program.

OPELOUSAS, LA–OCTOBER 21, 2025–Quarter Horse trainer Jose Carrizales has come a long way in the past seven years.
The 29-year-old horseman was born in Kaufman, Texas, and travels back and forth from there to run horses at each of the Louisiana tracks.

GRAND PRAIRIE, TX—OCTOBER 11, 2025—Lone Star Park officials announced the cancellation of all races scheduled for Saturday evening due to a significant technical failure with the track's lighting system.
Track management cited the safety of horses, riders, and staff as the top priority when canceling. The canceled program included the Karen Utecht Memorial Stakes, which had been slated as Race 6 of 12 on the evening card.

LOS ALAMITOS RACE COURSE, CYPRESS, CA–OCTOBER 6, 2025–For the second straight year, the Los Alamitos Equine Sale posted record figures thanks to a tremendous catalog that included 16 yearlings that sold for at least $100,000 each led by a Burns Ranch-bred colt from the legendary cross of Favorite Cartel and Remember Me Rose, who Rosenthal Ranch purchased for a sale topping price of $730,000.
This year’s average yearling sale price of $48,121 represented a 7.7% increase from the previous record average yearling sale price of $44,876 set last year. A total of 142 yearlings were sold at the 2025 Los Alamitos Equine Sale for a gross figure of $6,833,200.

SUNLAND PARK, NM—OCTOBER 4, 2025—Gaming and Leisure Properties Inc. (GLPI), a Pennsylvania-based real estate investment trust, has announced it will purchase the real estate assets of Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino for $183.75 million.
The deal is scheduled to close on October 15, pending final approvals, and will mark GLPI’s second property in New Mexico. The company already owns Zia Park Casino Hotel and Racetrack in Hobbs.

ROCK SPRINGS, WY–OCTOBER 3, 2025–The 2025 Sweetwater Downs horse racing meet concluded on Sunday with increased attendance, handle, and horsemen participation.
Larger on-track crowds contributed to a 9.57 percent increase in wagering at the Rock Springs oval, while all-sources handle, which includes in-state and out-of-state wagering sites, rose 99.06 percent.

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK–SEPTEMBER 26, 2025–The Oklahoma Quarter Horse Racing Association has released the official schedule and program details for the 2026 Quarter Horse, Paint, and Appaloosa racing season. KEMP, TX–SEPTEMBER 19, 2025–The horse racing industry lost a towering figure this past weekend with the passing of leading APHA owner and breeder Dan Jones on Sunday, September 14, 2025. He was 79.
“It is with a heavy heart that I have to share the loss of Dan Jones,” said his wife of 41 years, Kaye Jones. “The love of my life and the rock of the Jones family.”
Born June 26, 1946, in Hillsboro, Texas, Jones passed away peacefully at his home in Kemp, Texas, surrounded by his family.
