PARK CITY, KS–MARCH 11, 2026–The Kansas Quarter Horse Racing Association (KQHRA) held its 2026 Annual Convention on January 31 at Golden Circle Casino – Gilley’s in Park City, Kansas, bringing together members, horsemen, and supporters for an afternoon of meetings, industry updates, and awards.

The day began with the KQHRA Board of Directors meeting, where leadership reviewed association business, discussed ongoing initiatives, and outlined future plans as Kansas racing continues to move toward expanded opportunities in the state. Members later gathered for the Annual Membership Meeting, where updates were shared on racing developments, association programs, and the success of the Kansas Stallion Service Auction.

During the evening program, special guest speaker G.R. Carter, one of the most accomplished jockeys in Quarter Horse racing history, shared insights from his career and spoke about the future of the industry. Rodeo queen Ana Smith Ramirez also addressed attendees.

The Kansas Racing Awards recognized several individuals for their contributions to Quarter Horse racing connected to Kansas. Honorees included Paul and Virginia Treadwell, James Watson, Regina Laymon, Sammy Mendoza, Katie Larson, and Rodrigo Covarrubias.

Updates were also provided on improvements underway at Eureka Downs, where infrastructure work continues in preparation for racing. Renovations are currently underway on the announcer’s stand, racing office building, and barn areas as part of ongoing facility upgrades. The next fairboard meeting regarding the project is scheduled for March 16.

The convention also marked a transition in association leadership. Newly elected officers include President Kurt Eck, Vice President Regina Laymon, Second Vice President Dev Beeson, and Secretary Leigh Beeson, while Kyler Arpin was elected to the board of directors.

The KQHRA Stallion Service Auction concluded successfully, with additional “buy it now” breedings continuing to generate sales benefiting the Kansas Jackpot Futurity program.
