ELGIN, TX–MARCH 16, 2026–TQHA sent out a reminder on Monday that nominations for the 2026 $75,000-added Sires Cup Futurity (RG2) and the $50,000-added Sires Cup Derby (RG3) are due April 15.
Both races are scheduled for August 22, 2026 at Retama Park. Trials for the Futurity will be held August 7, with Derby trials set for August 8.
The races are open to foals of stallions that participated in the TQHA Stallion Auction, with eligibility based on the official stallion list. A $350 nomination payment must accompany the nomination form by the April 15 deadline.

When filling out the nomination blanks please complete the form in its’ entirety. You can mail in the form with a check or money order. If you want to pay with a credit card you can fill out the credit card information on the form and either mail it in or email it to ssherwood@tqha.com.
The eligibility list is divided into three color-coded sections. Foals by stallions listed under the blue or green header are eligible for the Sires Cup Futurity, while foals by stallions listed under the blue or purple header are eligible for the Sires Cup Derby. The list is three pages long, and horsemen are encouraged to review all pages when confirming eligibility.
Officials noted the list remains preliminary and subject to change as the stallion owner buy-back period continues.
In 2025, the Sires Cup Futurity purse totaled $223,000, while the Sires Cup Derby purse reached $110,000.
For 2026, the Sires Cup Derby has been awarded an RG3 grade, while the Sires Cup Futurity will remain an RG2 event.
