Jockey Juan Pulido and trainer John Stinebaugh are the Lip Chip Jockey and trainer of the week for April 18-21 at Remington Park

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK–APRIL 24, 2024–Former top rider at Remington Park, Juan Pulido, and conditioner John Stinebaugh, were named Lip Chip Jockey and Trainer of the Week for their efforts April 18-21 at Remington Park.

Pulido, who won the riding title in 2021 at Remington Park with 46 wins for the meet, won 5-of-24 starts last week and finished in the money (first, second or third) in 11-of-24 times. The pinnacle of his big week came on Saturday night when he won three races.

Pulido started the week in 15th place in the jockey standings and by Sunday, end of races, he was in a tie for 11th with Cristian Esqueda and Justine Klaiber at nine trips to the winner’s circle this meet. He now sits at 46 mounts, nine wins, seven seconds and four thirds for impressive stats of 20 percent winners for the meeting and 43 percent in the money.

Pulido is equally talented on every breed Remington Park runs in the spring. He won Saturday on the Paint, Nota Pocahontas, in a maiden race, followed by victories aboard American Quarter Horses, RC Jones 11 and KR November Rain.

In the jockeys’ race for the riding title this year, Roman Cruz and Ali Rivera have battled the entire meet for supremacy. They are tied coming into this week with 22 wins, 13 ahead of the fast-closing Pulido. Francisco Calderon is third at 20 victories, followed by Edwin Escobedo (last year’s top jock) at 19.

Stinebaugh had an equally fantastic week, maybe more so, winning with five-of-eight starters and finishing in the money with seven of those eight. He was a 63 percent winner for the week and 88 percent in the money.

Stinebaugh moved from a tie for fourth in the trainers’ standings at the beginning of the week to sole possession of third place, only one win out of first place. Stinebaugh moved past Jason Olmstead, who held down third place last week. Stinebaugh now trails only last year’s top trainer Dee Keener and Matt Whitekiller, who are in a dead-heat for first going into this week with 16 wins apiece.

Stinebaugh’s five winners last week were Bigg Hoss in a maiden race Saturday, This Is the One and Tarzan’s Favorite in maiden races Friday, and Not Any Wagon and Curl’s Magic Wagon in maiden races on Thursday. He has dominated the races for non-winners this meet with horses shipping in from workouts and training races at Retama Park just outside San Antonio, Texas.

Live racing continues this week with a Thursday-Sunday schedule. First post time nightly is 6 p.m., with the exception of Sunday when the first race goes off at 4 p.m.
