Oklahoma Racing Commission Proposing Number of New Rule Changes

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—JANUARY 2, 2019—The Oklahoma Racing Commission is proposing a number of new rule changes. The proposed rules must go through the public comment period, be adopted by the Commission, then go to the Legislature for it's approval. You can comment at any point in the process.

"It is very important that all horsemen, owners, trainers, veterinarians, etc. be aware of the proposed changes," OQHRA Executive Director Debbie Schauf says.

These rules, if adopted, will not go into effect until after the Remington Park meet at the earliest probably sometime in August, unless the OHRC determines some should be adopted as emergency rules.

Public notice has been posted regarding the intent of the racing commission to make a number of rule changes. The public comment period is now open and anyone can read and or provide verbal or written comment to the racing commission office regarding the proposed changes.

To access the changes go to ohrc.org. You will find the site under construction so please select the option "Click here to visit our old website".

When the home page opens you will see in the middle of the page a NOTICE OF PROPOSED RULE CHANGES. Click on the "rule text" for each chapter to read the rule. New language is underlined and language they are taking out has been lined through to strike it out.

"The rules are open for comment until adopted by the OHRC, at their February meeting. If adopted, they will also have to be approved by the legislature before they can take effect. If you have questions please call the OHRC offices at 405-943-6472 for more information," Schauf added.

If you are unable to access the proposed changes on the internet, you may contact the commission, or the OHRC office at the number above and ask them to provide a copy of the rules being considered for revision.
