OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—JUNE 13, 2013—A perfect Remington Park record in 2013, going five-for-five while winning back-to-back derbies, has earned Brace For Bernal honors as Horse of the Meeting. The streaking 3-year-old was tabbed in voting by media covering the Remington Park season and track personnel.

Owned by Noel Lopez-Prieto of Canadian, Texas and trained by record-setting conditioner Luis Villafranco, Brace For Bernal was ridden exclusively by Paul Nieto. An Oklahoma-bred by Furyofthewind from the Shazoom mare Zoom Bracer, Brace For Bernal opened his season with a win, by just a neck, in a Starter Allowance race for those who had run for a $10,000 claiming price.

After the winning tune-up in March, Brace For Bernal won his trial for the Remington Park Derby by a whopping 2-1/2 lengths before winning the final on April 20 by one length. Then it was on to a May 12 trial for the Grade 2 Heritage Place Derby that he won by 1-3/4 lengths. The June 1 final was another romp with Brace For Bernal cruising home to win by 1-1/2 lengths.

A winner of six consecutive races, dating to Nov. 2012, Brace For Bernal has won eight of 14 career attempts with total earnings of $318,726. He was bred in Oklahoma by Joaquin Lopez.v In addition to winning Horse of the Meeting honors, Brace For Bernal was a unanimous choice as Champion 3-year-old while also being voted Champion Oklahoma-bred.

Villafranco saddled winners in nine stakes races this season, a new mark for conditioners during the American Quarter Horse & Mixed-Breed Season at Remington Park.

BIG BIZ PERRY – Champion 2-Year-Old

Winning a trial by two lengths and then the Grade 1, $1,075,260 Heritage Place Futurity by a hard-fought head, garnered a 2-year-old seasonal title for filly Big Biz Perry.

Owned by Jose Espinosa of Edinburg, Texas and trained by Trey Wood, Big Biz Perry was ridden in her trial by Ricky Ramirez. Jockey Cipriano Vidana, her rider in two previous starts at Sam Houston Race Park prior to moving to Remington Park, had the call in the Heritage Place Futurity.

Bred in Texas by Burnett Ranches, Big Biz Perry is by Mr Jess Perry from the Shazoom mare Big Bizooms. She won both of her Remington Park starts and has three wins from four attempts overall. The huge score in the Heritage Place Futurity drove her career earnings to $392,500.

PRICELESS FEATURE – Champion Older Male

The best race of his season made Priceless Feature the Champion Older Male. He won the Grade 1 Remington Park Championship by a neck over Ochoa, the all-time money leader in the sport.

The Championship score followed a victory in the Sooner State Stakes for Oklahoma-breds in early May. Priceless Feature was third in his first attempt of the season, the Mr Jet Moore Handicap for Oklahoma-breds in early April.

Owned by Ed Melzer of Edmond, Okla. and trained by Eddie Willis, Priceless Feature is a 4-year-old gelding by Feature Mr Jess from the Corona Cartel mare Southern Price. He was bred in Oklahoma by Sam Green.

A winner of 10 races from 20 attempts, Priceless Feature has won eight races at Remington Park in his three-year career. Overall he has made $586,043.

BLACK ROSALITA – Champion Older Female

A pair of victories in the top stakes events for females captured honors for Black Rosalita.

Her rallying triumphs in the Grade 3 Decketta Stakes and the Grade 2 Junos Request Stakes made her a unanimous champion in the category.

Owned and bred in Maryland by Dr. Francis L. Glowacki 97 Trust of Queenstown, Md., Black Rosalita is trained by Luz Chavira and was ridden in all of her Remington Park starts by Ivan Carnero.

A 4-year-old filly by Sweet First Down from the Tolltac mare Poneta, Black Rosalita has won nine races from 26 lifetime attempts with three wins at Remington Park. She has earned $169,060.

DOCS DUSTY OKIE – Champion Distance Runner

A widening 1-3/4 lengths win in the Grade 3 Remington Distance Handicap on the final day of the season won a title for Docs Dusty Okie.

For the first time in years, the Distance Runner division was wide-open as no horse dominated the category. His only win from four attempts was conclusive enough for the voters to tab Docs Dusty Okie who is owned and bred in Oklahoma by Dusty Rose Ranch of Oklahoma City. Trained by Cristino Estrada, the gelding was ridden by Randy Wilson in his stakes win.

A 6-year-old by Okey Dokey Dale from the Hy Lucky Jay mare Stephanie Rose, Docs Dusty Okie has won 10 races from 32 attempts overall with six scores at Remington Park. He has made $254,601 to date.

IMACHICKENKICKER – Champion Paint

A three-race win streak to end the season clinched the title for Imachickenkicker, owned & bred by Shirley Wheeler of Boynton, Okla.

After losing all chance with a hopping start in a March trial for the Speedhorse/Graham Farms Paint & Appaloosa Derby, Imachickenkicker made no other mistakes the rest of the season. She won the Paul Harber Memorial Stakes in late March followed by a win in the Grade 1 American Paint Classic Derby in April. The talented female wrapped up her title when she beat older runners in the Grade 1 National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum Stakes in May.

Trained by Luis Villafranco and ridden in by Cody Jensen and Paul Nieto during her stakes runs, Imachickenkicker is a 3-year-old by Dos Poruno from the Game Patriot mare Game Chicken. The three wins this season boost her career total to six and her overall Remington Park total to four. From 14 career starts, Imachickenkicker has made $140,527.

MAJOR TOM – Champion Appaloosa

The lone Appaloosa in the richest race for Paints & Appaloosas in the world, Major Tom flew to victory in the Grade 1, $249,175 Speedhorse/Graham Farms Futurity and clinched his divisional title.

Owned by Mary Hainline of Noble, Okla. and trained by Eddie Willis, Major Tom drew away in the Speedhorse/Graham to win by 1-3/4 lengths. Jockey Jimmy Brooks was up for all three of Major Tom’s wins this season.

A gelding by Red Storm Cat (qh) from the Mr Eye Opener (qh) mare Eyesa Knockout, Major Tom was bred in Oklahoma by Gary Vaughn. He has three wins from four attempts, earning $109,649.

SMR BRONTE – Champion Claimer

Perfect in all four of his Remington Park races in 2013, all around the turn at 870 yards, SMR Bronte did not get tabbed in the Distance category for lack of a stakes victory but does earn the title as top claimer.

SMR Bronte is owned by Scott Roberts of Maysville, Okla. after he claimed the gelding away from Ron Delp after the horse won at the $7,500 claiming level in March. After taking over, trainer Brian Muse kept SMR Bronte in allowance or starter allowance races the rest of the way, avoiding further claims while the wins continued.

Ridden in his four victories by Albert Medrano, G.R. Carter and Ivan Carnero, SMR Bronte has six career wins overall from 12 attempts. His four wins this season equal his career Remington Park total and all of his 870-yard attempts.

Bred in Washington by Charles and Cynthia Hoctor, the 4-year-old SMR Bronte is by Brimmerton from the Petersburg (tb) mare Cocktails Anyone (tb). After his perfect Remington Park season, he has now earned $47,733.
