RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—JANUARY 30, 2012—The final supplemental opportunity before the trial-entry supplemental payment for this summer’s runnings of the Grade 1, $2,300,000 (est.) All American Derby, the Grade 1, $1,000,000 (est.) Rainbow Derby and the Grade 1, $750,000 (est.) Ruidoso Derby is Wednesday (February 1).
Each of three grade 1 derbies is on pace to have an all-time record purse and the All American Derby could offer the highest derby purse, regardless of breed, in North America. The All American Derby already has more than $1,700,000 deposited in its account and is expected to surpass the $2,000,000 purse of the Kentucky Derby. The 440-yard All American Derby will be the all-time richest race for three-year-old or older quarter horses.
These iconic grade 1 derbies are also stepping stones to championship titles. Last year, world champion Cold Cash 123 won the Rainbow Derby, champion three-year-old colt Prospect To The Top was second in the All American Derby and champion three-year-old filly Miss Racy Jess won her All American Derby trial.
The supplemental fee for the 2012 All American Derby is $25,000, the Rainbow Derby supplemental fee is $20,000 and the Ruidoso Derby supplemental fee is $15,000.
Horses who are already eligible for these three derbies have a sustaining payment due on February 1 to maintain their eligibility. The All American Derby sustaining payment is $700, the Rainbow Derby sustaining fee is $550 and the Ruidoso Derby sustaining payment is also $550.
