First Crop Sire The Louisiana Cartel Posts Big Weekend at Sam Houston Race Park

SEGUIN, TX—APRIL 7, 2015—Multiple Grade 2 winner The Louisiana Cartel had four winners and four stakes qualifiers, from his first crop to race, over the just completed weekend at Sam Houston Race Park.

In Saturday's $600,000-est. Sam Houston Futurity trials, the son of leading sire Corona Cartel had three winners and two horses to place from the 19 trial races. One colt qualified to the final and three others advanced as preferred invites for the $25,000 Sam Houston Juvenile Invitational.

EC Jet One won his career debut in the Sam Houston trials with a half-length victory, in :17.088 seconds over the 300 yard course, putting him into the rich April 25 final. Leslie Padilla conditions the homebred for owner/breeder Enrique Carrion. Rodrigo Vallejo had the riding call aboard the bay colt out of Pretty Girl Perry, by Mr Jess Perry.

For the Sam Houston Juvenile, The Louisiana Cartel's offspring garnered the 2nd, 3rd and 9th invitational spots.

Jetsie Cartel, also a home bred, racing for owner Eleazar Martinez won the first of 19 trials on Saturday to post the 12th fastest time of :17.103 seconds from the 174 head who participated. Yasmine Fierro conditions the bay filly out of Jetsie Shine First, by First To Shine. Louis Vivanco was aboard for the Jetsie Cartel's first start.

In the second trial Honeys Louisiana Pop finished second to second fastest qualifier Nexxus while ending the night with the 13th best time of :17.135 seconds. Jorge Haddad saddled the homebred daughter of The Louisiana Cartel for owner/breeder Gary Kurz. David Alvarez rode Louisiana Pop who is out of the Gol mare Gols Honey Money Pop.

The Ram Cartel broke his maiden with an impressive 2˝ length victory while running a 94 speed index.

Sissy Cartel became the third winner for her sire on Saturday when she took the 12th trial heat with a :17.164 clocking, giving her the 19th fastest time. Also trained by Yasmine Fierro, Sissy Cartel was ridden by Luis Vivanco. Anahi Marinez owns the filly out of Hot Regrets, by Hot Colours. Eleazar Martinez is the breeder.

On Friday night at Sam Houston Race Park another The Louisiana Cartel 2-year-old, The Ram Cartel, broke his maiden with an impressive 2˝ length victory while completing 250 yards in :13.399 seconds, a 94 speed index. Angel Sanchez trains the colt out of Jos Jody O Toole, by Jody O Toole, for owner Richard Morales. Jose Flores is the breeder.

For the weekend, The Louisiana Cartel had four winners at Sam Houston Race Park which pushed the stallion to the top of the leading first crop sires' list of winners in 2015. From 18 starters this season he has five winners and four to place(60%).
