HOUSTON, TX—MARCH 26, 2019—Mystical Jess got her first career stakes win Friday when she defeated Alinas War Princess by half-a-length in the $25,000 Miss Sam Houston Stakes at Sam Houston Race Park. Shake Em Rocks finished a head back in third.
Under jockey Jesse Levario, Mystical Jess broke on top and was driving at the finish to completed the 330 yards in :17.015 seconds, an 89 speed index into a 5 mph headwind.
Trainer Josue Ponce conditions Texas homebred for owner-breeder Juan Lozano, Jr. The daughter of leading sire Apollitical Jess entered the Miss Sam Houston off a third-place effort in the Leverne Perry Memorial Stakes at Louisiana Downs.
Bred from the Dash Thru Traffic mare Traffic Juana, Mystical Jess has compiled a (17) 3-6-3 record. The Miss Sam Houston winner's purse valued at $15,000 boosted the 4-year-old's earnings total to $59,488.
Trainer Roger Moore saddled third-place finisher Shake Em Rocks for owner/breeders Betty and Bob Moore. Alejandro Zuniga had the riding assignment aboard the multiple stakes-placed daughter of Rock Solid Jess from the Royal Shake Em mare Shake Em Fever. The $2,750 third-place check boosted the 4-year-olds earnings total to $27,289 .
Completing the field were Classy Seis, Gianni Moons U, Saved By Jesus Jm, Runaway Heroine, Shapeshifter, First Lady Eleanor and Lilac.
