PHOENIX, AZ—APRIL 10, 2016—Racing over a sloppy (sealed) racetrack, 2-year-old Tres N Candy defeated Camp David by a nose to get her second career win in as many starts and set the fastest qualifying time for the John Deere Turf Paradise Juvenile Challenge.
The 10 fastest qualifiers, from two trial races, will return to the Phoenix racetrack on Sunday, May 1 to vie for the winner's share of a $25,000-added purse and a starting spot in the Grade 2 $150,000 Guaranteed John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship October 29 at Los Alamitos Race Course.
Ridden by jockey Luis Yescas, Tres N Candy recovered from a bump at the start to finish the 350 yards in :18.186 seconds into a 12 mph headwind. Omar Lorta conditions the daughter of leading sire Tres Seis for owner Y/N Horse Stables, LLC.
Guy R. Peixoto, Jr. bred Tres N Candy in California from the White Tie mare Sex N Candy. The gray filly broke her maiden in her first start on March 13 at Rillito Park.
Camp David finished second under jockey Emilio Tapia in :18.192 seconds to secure the second fastest time for owner Ricardo Ramirez. The royally bred son of Carters Cartel is out of Buckshot Delight, by First Down Dash. Eaves Family Limited Partnership bred the colt in Texas.
Apollitical Boogie defeated Runaway Preslee by half-a-length in the first trial to get the third fastest time of :18.259 seconds, into a 12 mph headwind. Rodolfo Arvizu had the riding assignment aboard the son of leading sire Apollitical Jess for owner/breeder Armando De La Riva. The sorrel gelding was making his career debut for trainer Eloy Mendoza.
Apollitical Boogie is out of the Late To Bed mare Shakin Ana Dashin.
