A memorial service in Ron Alvarado's memory will be held at Queen of Heaven Mortuary on Saturday, December 16 starting at 9 a.m.

Alvarado and his wife Rosie, who preceded him in death in May of 2016, raced many runners over the years, mostly from a family line dating back to the broodmare Dashing Noble. She produced several standouts in the late 1990s and early 2000s including stakes winner RA Noble, the winner of the Goetta Handicap in September of 1999.

Later owned by Salvador Pimienta, RA Noble would produce the Corona Czech filly Blackberry Czech, which would go on to win the 2012 Kindergarten Futurity for Pimienta.

Dashing Noble was also the mother of the Alvarados’ homebred winner Hi Noble, a four-time winner at Los Alamitos, as well as the three-time winning gelding UR Noble. Other Alvarado-bred winners out of Dashing Noble included Noble Song, Yo Estoy Listo, Chamon, Shes A Noble Dash, Check This Noble, and Mi Noble Babe.

Ron started owning horses in the early 1970s after joining a racing partnership headed by his friend, Johnny Emoto. The Alvarados were fixtures at Los Alamitos Race Course and enjoyed the nightly races in the Vessels Club since its opening in 1995. However, the Alvarados’ love affair with horse racing dated back to early 1970s.

"I started coming to the races around 1973 or ’74. Johnny talked me into being partners on a horse," Ron said. "The horse was Buds Lodi."

Ron and Rosie’s friends at the racetrack included the Schvaneveldt Family and racehorse owners Frank and Asaye Nakamura, Bernie and Barbara Pica, and Joyce Sherryll to just mention a few. Ron had recently claimed a couple of Thoroughbreds, including one named Royal Red with new owner, Bob Harraka.

Ron met Rosie met while attending Gardena High School located 19 miles northwest of Los Alamitos Race Course. The couple married a few years later and had four children together: Ron Jr., Jackie, Susan, and Tony.

"My dad loved attending the races," Susan said. "He loved his Quarter Horses. He bred them, raised them, and just loved them. He loved to golf and to fish as well."

The Alvarados were married for over 60 years until Rosie’s passing. In addition to their children, six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren survive the Alvarados.
