CYPRESS, CA—APRIL 15, 2016—In an article published Thursday on PaulickReport.com, Dr. Ed Allred, owner of Los Alamitos Race Course, told Ray Paulick he may have lost a court ruling last month preventing him from using hair testing to enforce his house rule banning clenbuterol in Quarter Horses, but he was not giving up without a fight.
"You can be assured I'm going to do my darndest to put the level of integrity of California Quarter Horse racing at the highest level," Allred told the Paulick Report. "If I can't, I don't belong in it, but I think we can."
The Los Angeles Superior Court decision was a victory for owner Gustavo De La Torre, who challenged the house rule that prevented one of his horses from competing in a stakes race after a hair follicle test conducted at the University of California-Davis detected clenbuterol in the horse when it competed in a qualifying heat.
Ultimately, however, the ruling could be a major blow to both Quarter Horse and Thoroughbred racing in California.
