Heavy Storms Force Postponement Of Last 10 Races Saturday At Remington Park

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—MAY 23, 2015—The record for monthly rainfall in Oklahoma City was surpassed on Saturday evening. Falling with that mark were the final 10 races on the Remington Park program as a heavy storm hit the central Oklahoma racetrack just before race two.

The second race was conducted in a driving rain over a sloppy track. After a 15-minute delay, it was decided for the safety of all concerned to postpone the final 10 races on the program. Those 10 races will now be moved to Sunday, May 31 with a first post time of 1:30pm. The races will be redrawn on Memorial Day Monday in the Remington Park racing office, with preference given to those that had already entered.

The decision to postpone the final 10 races on Saturday was made by Oklahoma Horse Racing Commission Stewards, Remington Park track management and the Oklahoma Quarter Horse Racing Association.

This is the first time that Remington Park has failed to finish a racing program that had started during an American Quarter Horse Season since May 31, 2013 when a tornado outbreak took place in central Oklahoma.

The 2015 Remington Park American Quarter Horse Season was scheduled to come to a close on Saturday night, May 30. The season will now be extended by one-more calendar day.

Among the races moved to Sunday, May 31 is the Grade 1, $30,000 National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum Stakes. The race features the top older Paints and Appaloosa runners, including: Texas Silk, the 2014 World Champion Paint; Major Tom (Ap), the 2014 Remington Park Horse of the Meeting; and Cant Be Caught, the talented 3-year-old Appaloosa in the midst of a seven-race winning streak.

Racing is scheduled to resume Sunday, May 24 at Remington Park, featuring top Oklahoma-breds competing in four stakes races.

  • The $70,000 East Date Stakes is for older fillies and mares at 350 yards in race six.
  • The $70,000 FL Lady Bug Stakes is for 2-year-olds at 330 yards
  • The $70,000 Boyd Morris Memorial is for those 3-years-old and older at 400 yards.
  • The $50,000 Jack Brooks Stakes is for 3-year-olds going 350 yards.
  • The first race on Sunday and Memorial Day Monday is at 1:30pm (CDT).

Tracked by over 78,000 fans on Facebook and 6,100 Twitter followers, Remington Park is Oklahoma City’s only Racetrack & Casino and is located at the junction of Interstates 35 & 44, in the heart of the Oklahoma City Adventure District.
