All American Derby Finalist Brings Top Bid in Ruidoso Broodmare Sale

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—SEPTEMBER 4, 2010—Callan Rocks, the fourth fastest qualifier to the 2010 $1,548,075 All American Derby(G1) brought the top bid of $300,000 in Friday's Ruidoso Horse Sale Company's Broodmare Auction.

Dr. Ed Allred purchased the Corona Cartel filly from the Crystal Springs Farm, Agent. The full sister to stakes winner Corona Ease ($209,820) could earn more than $770,000 in Sunday's richest Quarter Horse derby ever.

Callan Rock's second dam is the champion mare Dashing Phoebe, dam of four-time AQHA Racing champion and All American winner Heartswideopen ($1,885,283).

Friday's auction saw 24 of the 49 mares offered bring $625,900. The $26,079 average was just short of the 2009 sale average of $26,876. However the 2010 median price of $13,500 fell short of a $19,000 median on 37 mares sold last year.
