RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—SEPTEMBER 4, 2010—The 2010 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale got off to a roaring start Friday night when the first yearling to enter the sale ring brought a final bid of $340,000.
That price was $40,000 higher and the top selling yearling from last season's 3-day sale and helped get the first night average up by nearly $2,000 over last year.
Friday's first session unofficial results saw 101 of 133 yearlings offered find new homes for a $34,479 average and a $15,000 median. The average was up but the sale median on the first night compared to last year's auction was off by $5,000
Rene Ruiz paid the top price of $340,000 for an unnamed Corona Cartel colt. Cataloged as hip 47, the bay was the first yearling offered, following the Ruidoso Sale Company's Broodmare Sale that consisted of 46 lots.
Consigned by Lee & Sherwood Racing /H. Mineer, the colt is the first foal from the 2007 Rainbow Futurity(G1) winner Wild Six ($601,632), by Tres Seis.
Burns Ranch, Agent sold Fly First Down, a colt by First Down Dash out of Babe On The Fly, by Strawfly Special to Raul Ramirez for $300,000. Babe On The Fly is a grade 1 placed earner of more than $246,000 and has produced 100% winners from three starters.
Mackie Racing, LLC paid $222,000 for the first foal out of grade 1 Dash For Cash Derby winner Jess A Lil Bit More ($145,165). The Corona Cartel colt was consigned by Lazy E Ranch, LLC Agent.
Ruiz, Ramirez and Mackie Racing, LLC, were the top three buyers with one yearling each.
Burns Ranch, Agent toped the first session consignors with three yearlings grossing $358,000, followed by Lee & Sherwood Racing & H. Mineer's one for $340,000. Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent had two for $258,000 and Lazy E Ranch, LLC Agent for Mackie Racing, LLC had two sell for $205,000.
Perennial leading sire First Down Dash led the first session leading sires list with six yearlings averaging $126,167, followed by Corona Cartel with eight at $120,375 and Mr Jess Perry saw six yearlings bring $76,167.
