OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—JANUARY 17, 2010—Final numbers for the just concluded (Saturday) three-day Heritage Place Winter Mixed Sale were positive in all categories.
"We are thrilled with the results and want to thank both the consignors and the buyers as well as the staff and auction team that helped make this auction a success," Jeff Tebow, Heritage Place General Manager said Saturday evening following the final session.
"I must admit that we were confident coming into this sale that we could hold even with last year's results or advance them slightly, but I never imagined we would be able to report these positive numbers".
Dashin Follies set what is believed to be an all-time record for a high-selling American Quarter Horse broodmare at auction on Thursday, Michael Pohl's herd reduction, when she sold for $875,000.
Tyler Graham, Agent, signed the ticket for the 11-year-old Strawfly Special mare consigned by Oklahoma Stud, Agent for Michael A. Pohl. The dam of grade 1 winner PYC Paint Your Wagon ($889,581), grade 1 stakes-placed Ivory James ($220,026), grade 3 stakes-placed Eye Follies 9$101,315), grade 1 finalists Coronita Cartel ($31,724) and Separatist Follies ($36,544), sold with 2010 embryos by Corona Cartel and Jet Black Patriot .
Graham also signed the ticket as agent for Coronita Cartel, the aforementioned Corona Cartel daughter of Dashin Follies, who was the second high-seller at $250,000. Also consigned by Oklahoma Stud, Agent for Michael A. Pohl, the Heritage Place Futurity(G1) finalist sold with a 2010 embryo by grade 1 winner One Famous Eagle.
Vaughn and Jill Cook purchased A Tempting Strawfly from Ron & Denise Van Amburgh for $150,000 during Saturday's final Quarter Horse session. The 5-year-old Strawfly Special mare is a half-sister to 2009 champion 2-year-old colt Tempting Dash ($673,970) and grade 1 winner A Tempting Dash ($304,496). She sold in-foal to Corona For Me.
The other six-figure broodmare sold was Double Bar S Ranch, LLC's Daze Like This, who was purchased by Alan and Denise Taylor for $100,000. The Corona Cartel 4-year-old bred to First Down Dash is a half-sister to three-time champion Jess You And I ($1,324,536), stakes winner Dog Daze Afternoon ($49,877) and stakes –placed runners Wortherweightingold and Gold Medal Ribbon.
Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent for Lucas Racing, Inc. consigned the high-selling short-yearling, Carrington Beach, a 2009 FDD Dynasty colt out of former Broodmare of the Year Runaway Wave. Rafter W Stables purchased the bay half-brother to world champion Wave Carver, three-time champion Oceans Runaway and grade 1 winner Trisk for $65,000.
Below are the preliminary sale numbers released Saturday evening by Heritage Place Sale Company:
Quarter Horse Session—Overall average per horse increased 13.5% over 2009 equaling $9,479.53 including repurchases. Overall increase on horses sold increased 17%. Repurchases were 9% down from 14% in 2009. Gross sales increased 32% from 2009 totaling $8,683,250. There were 1027 horses cataloged, 110 withdrawn from the sale, 84 repurchased and 832 horses sold.
Paint Session—Overall average per horse increased 1.44% over 2009 equaling $3075.93. Repurchases were 18% and Gross sales totaled $83,050. There were 28 horses cataloged, 1 withdrawn from the sale, 5 repurchased and 22 horses sold.
Thoroughbred Session—Overall average per horse increased 17% over 2009 equaling $2,661.90. Repurchases were 2% down from 12% in 2009. Gross sales totaled $111,800. There were 54 horses cataloged, 12 withdrawn from the sale, 1 repurchased and 41 horses sold.
