Corona Cartel Reaches 100th Stakes Winner Milestone

GUTHRIE, OK—JUNE 8, 2009—Leading sire Corona Cartel reached another milestone on Saturday when his 3-year-old son, Time For A Cigar, won the Ruidoso Derby(G1) to become the 100th stakes winner for the 15-year-old stallion.

From nine crops to race the bay has sired 1 world champion, 3 champions, 100 stakes winners, 93 stakes-placed, 534 winners, with earnings nearing $29,000,000. His foals have average earnings per starter of more than $38,000.

Among Corona Cartel outstanding runners are American Quarter Horse Racing's World Champion and #2 All-Time Leading Money Earner Blues Girls Too ($2,032,382). The bay filly was also named Champion Three-Year-Old, Champion Three-Year-Old Filly and Champion Two-Year-Old Filly. Her wins included the Champion of Champions(G1), Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity(G1), Golden State Derby(G1) and Mildred N Vessels Memorial Handicap(G1).

His other champions are All American Futurity winner and first crop sire Teller Cartel ($1,212,471) and Ed Burke Million Futurity(G1) winner Carters Cartel ($659,146). He has also sired millionaire Eye For Corona ($1,100,121) winner of the Golden State Futurity(G1); Texas Classic Futurity(G1) winner PYC Paint Your Wagon ($889,581); and Rainbow Derby(G1) winner Remember Me Rose ($820,895).

The son of Holland Ease, out of former Broodmare of the Year Corona Chick, won or placed in nine of 14 career starts with earnings of $557,142. Among his wins were the Los Alamitos Millions Futurity(G1) and Kindergarten Futurity(G1).
