Multiple Grade 1 Winner Bomb Cyclone Retires

LOS ALAMITOS, CA–NOVEMBER 14, 2023–Rosenthal Ranch LLC has retired the multiple Grade 1 winner Bomb Cyclone according to the official announcement shared in a text on Monday morning.

Bred by Steve Burns, Bomb Cyclone is owned by Connie Rosenthal, trained by Chris O’Dell and ridden in every one of his starts by jockey Eduardo Nicasio. The 4-year-old gelding by Favorite Cartel is out of the AQHA Dam of Distinction and all-time leading broodmare Remember Me Rose. He won seven of his 14 lifetime starts and earned $1,446,063 during his brilliant career.

"Rosenthal Ranch is happy to announce the retirement of the great Bomb Cyclone," the announcement stated. “This superstar horse thrilled us all with his dominant speed.

"Bomb Cyclone was a favorite of many in the quarter horse racing industry as he was truly something special. He had the ability to recover from a bobbled start and make up ground in a stealth-speed manner. And when he broke sharp-it was over, no other horse could catch him-no matter how far the distance was. He is a barn favorite of all that know him personally. He likes people and does everything right."

Bomb Cyclone was lethal from post number one at Los Alamitos, winning the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity by an impressive two lengths in 2021 and the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Super Derby by 1 ½ lengths, both from along the rail.

He finished fourth, also from the rail, in the 50th running of the Champion of Champions last year, a race that was billed “A Race For The Ages” due to his spectacular starting lineup. With such an impressive resume from post number one, Bomb Cyclone will be remembered as one of the best horses in recent memory racing from inside rail at Los Alamitos.

At Ruidoso Downs, Bomb Cyclone won the Grade 2 Mr. Jet Moore Handicap.

"Bomb Cyclone was special to me from the moment I saw him and after the first breeze on Bomb, I fell in love with him," Nicasio said. "He will always be the favorite for me and my family."

O’Dell believes Bomb Cyclone is the "fastest horse that he has ever trained."

Connie Rosenthal has entrusted Bomb Cyclone to the care of Christopher O’Dell for the rest of his life. O’Dell Ranch in Hondo NM will be his lasting home and he will join his champion brother Powerful Favorite to be a part of the pony horse team.

"This is a testament of how much all of us in the racing industry love our horses and take care of them after their racing career is over," the announcement stated. "Rosenthal Ranch would like to give special thanks to all who have had an impact on this special horse."
