First Prize Perry Gets First Stakes Winner

KAPLAN, LA—JANUARY 21, 2011—Grade 1 placed second crop sire First Prize Perry got his first stakes winner Saturday afternoon when Ana Alvidrez' Mr T Perry picked up his third straight win in the $40,000 Billy Montgomery Stakes(RG3) at Louisiana Downs.

Miguel Rodriguez saddled the 3-year-old gelding by First Prize Perry out of the Thoroughbred mare T Storm, by Salt Lake. He earned $24,000 for the effort.

First Prize Perry, by leading living sire of money earners Mr Jess Perry, was the #7 Leading First Crop Sire of Money Earners in 2011. He has sired 19 winners from 37 starters with average earnings per starter of more than $7,800. Among his first crop earners are Mr T Perry SI 107 ($49,996), Sharp Dressed Man SI 98, Klassy Prize Perry SI 101 ($20,427), etc.

Owned by Chad Hart, First Prize Perry won or placed in seven of eight career starts, earning $243,946. He was second by a nose to Valiant Hero in the Texas Classic Futurity(G1) at Lone Star Park.

Bred in Oklahoma by Weetona Stanley, First Prize Perry is out of former Broodmare of the Year First Prize Dash, by Dash For Cash. The multiple grade 1 producer of 23 ROM is a full sister to all-time leading sire First Down Dash.

First Prize Perry is a full brother to Remington Park Futurity(G1) winner First Prize Leesa ($488,270), Heritage Place Futurity(G1) winner First Carolina ($415,047); Remington Park Futurity(G1) winner First Prize Robin ($295,147); Black Gold Futurity(R) runner-up First Prize Parris ($92,910); and Mr Master Bug Handicap(R) runner-up First Prize Stone ($22,388). Another full brother, First Prize Stanley, set an all-time record as the highest selling Ruidoso yearling in history when he brought $675,000 in 2008.

The 8-year-old stallion is also a half-brother to Heritage Place Futurity(G1) winner Fast First Prize ($244,929); Blue Ribbon Futurity(G2) winner and leading sire Heza Fast Dash ($136,123); and stakes-placed First Prize Timber ($56,018).
