Wf Jess Candy Breaks Maiden In $40,000 Oklahoma Paint and Appaloosa Juvenile

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—MARCH 23, 2024—Wf Jess Candy got his first career win on Saturday when he defeated If I Was A Cowboy by a neck in the $40,000 Oklahoma Paint and Appaloosa Juvenile at Remington Park. Back Spin was a head back in the blanket-finish to take third.

Under AQHA Racing Champion Jockey Ricky Ramirez, Wf Jess Candy bounced off a fourth-place finish in his career debut, a trial for the Oklahoma Paint and Appaloosa Futurity(G1) on March 7.  The son of leading paint first-crop sire PHQ Apollitical Jess completed the 300 yards in :15.818 into a 7 mph headwind.

Leading Remington Park trainer Dee Keener saddled his second consecutive Oklahoma Paint and Appaloosa Juvenile winner.  Racing for owner Painted Faith Racing (Wendy Ingersoll), the colt out of SW Eye Candy by Country Chicks Man was bred in Oklahoma by Keener and Steve Wright.

Wf Jess Candy picked up $15,200 for the win to increase his earnings total to $15,598 after two starts.

Michael Read's If I Was A Cowboy picked up $6,800 for second. Trainer Randal Read conditions the daughter of AQHA leading second-crop sire Flying Cowboy 123 from the Crm Livewire mare Pistol Grippin Gal. Andrew Samaniego had the riding call aboard the James and Windy Howard Oklahoma-bred.

Back Spin, a son of leading APHA sire Crm Livewire, earned $4,400 for finishing third. Also from the Kenner barn, Back Spin races for owner Planefun LLC and was bred by J. Garvan Kelly and Lloyd Yother. Rolando Raudales rode the Oklahoma-bred from the County Quick Dash mare Valdarama.

Cowboy On The Fly, Linda Cartel, Baileys N Blood, Valiant Fury, El Kicken Cowboy and Flying On The Turnpike completed the field.
