$7,000 LQHBA Yearlings Sets Top Mark In Record $458,794 Mardi Gras Futurity Trials Day 2

BOSSIER CITY, LA–MARCH 10, 2024–You Fly I Buy, a $7,000 LQHBA Yearling Sale repurchase, broke his maiden in his career debut—setting the fastest qualifying time on the second day of trials for the restricted Grade 2 Mardi Gras Futurity at Louisiana Downs, with a 2024 record setting purse valued at $458,794.

Today's five qualifiers will join the five fastest from yesterday (see related story) who are set to return to Louisiana Downs on March 30th, vying for a winner's purse valued at $206,457. 

Under jockey Eleazar Hernandez, You Fly I Buy went wire-to-wire in the last of nine trials to set the top qualifying mark of :15.631 seconds. Trainer Santiago Villaseca saddled the son of third-crop sire You Drive I Fly for owner Cuadra Tortuga LLC.

"His (You Fly I Buy) win today was very exciting," said Villaseca. "He is not the biggest horse, but he broke well from the gates in training and always stayed in front of the other babies he worked against. Our team has worked hard for this opportunity."

Earl Landry Jr and Randy Rodrigue bred the chestnut colt in Louisiana from the Five Bar Cartel mare Beyond Da Cartel, a half-sister to five black type including Icanonlyemagine. The second dam Real Or Imagined is by Dash For Cash.

Uuzzii a $23,000 LQHBA Yearling Sale repurchase, ridden by jockey Ubaldo Luna won trial 6 by three-quarters.  His time of :15.673 seconds recorded the second fastest clocking.

Adrian Huitron conditions the son of world champion Freighttrain B for owner 2 Kings Racing LLC.  Bred by Darrell Williams, Uuzzii is the from the first crop out of the One Sweet Jess mare Bp One Sweet Policy, a half-sister to five black type includeing Governors Stakes winner Bp Valiant Policy. 

"He was a quick learner," said Huitron. "We have been working with him since December and he has done everything we have asked.  He showed talent in his schooling race at Retama Park."

This is the family of Grade 1 winners Southern Cartel, Priceless Feature, Uptown Dynasty and Uptowne Babe.

This Ladys Leaving was a head winner over Aniston Tlc in trial 5 to get the third fastest clocking of :15.693 seconds, an 89 speed index.

Paul Leal conditions the $11,000 LQHBA Yearling Sale graduate for owner Triple J Partnership. Also ridden by Ubaldo Luna, This Ladys Leaving is a daughter of champion sire Coronas Leaving You from the Apollitical Jess mare Miss Zoomin Lady.

Runner-up in that trial Aniston Tlc held on to the fourth fastest clocking of :15.710 seconds. A $15,000 LQHBA repurchase for breeders Jorge Haddad and Jorge Haddad Mestre, Aniston Tlc race for JJJ Racing.

Trainer Roy Roberts named Arnulfo Gutierrez to ride the daughter champion sire The Louisiana Cartel from the Mr Jess Perry mare Jess Charming. From the family of Grade 1 winner Louisiana Senator, Aniston Tlc is a half-sister to three black type including stakes winner Favorite Latin Lover.

Pilot Perry, a $14,000 LQHBA Yearling Sale graduate, finished second to fastest qualifier You Fly I Buy in the final trial to get the last qualifying spot with a :15.730 clocking, an 88 speed index.

Gilberto Gonzalez conditions the son of the All American Futurity(G1) winner Mr Piloto for owner Guerras Racing Stables. Arturo Alvarez had the riding call aboard the colt out of Jess Catch A Dream by One Sweet Jess. Leigh Perry is the breeder.  

This is the family of world champion Bodacious Eagle and champions Heartswideopen, Special Phoebe, American Runaway and Hes Relentless.
