Lone Star Tops 61 Two-Year-Olds In Retama Park Training Races - CORRECTION

SELMA, TX—FEBRUARY 21, 2020—Lone Star, a daughter of champion sire Coronas Leaving You, posted the fastest time from 61 two-year-old's who participated in 11 training races on Friday at Retama Park. The track carded 14 races with two for maiden 3-year-old & Up Quarter Horses and one 4-½ furlong race for Thoroughbred maidens.

Saddled by trainer John Stinebaugh, Lone Star races for owner-breeder Garlyn Shelton, Lone Star stopped the timer in :13.72 seconds for the 250 yards to the day's top mark. The gray filly is the first foal from the Mr Jess Perry mare Lonestar Shaker, a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Stoli Angel. The second dam is the Heritage Place Futurity(G1) winner Eyesa Shaker by Eyesa Special. Kelsi Purcell was riding.

Stinebaugh saddled Five Bar Stoli, a Five Bar Cartel colt out of Stoli Angel, to a runner-up effort in the 2019 Grade 1 Rainbow Derby for Shelton.

Stinebaugh also saddled Coronados Chick to victory in Race 7 for Shelton. The Coronado Cartel colt is out of Eye B Quick Chick.

GEH Kissandacorona, a colt by Imperial Corona, finished second in Race 11 to Lone Star to tie for the second fastest clocking of :13.81 seconds. Elpidio Luna, Jr. trains the 2-year-old out of Passion Kiss for Gary Harvey, Sr.

Tommy Hayes and Bobby Barnett's A Double Corona won the 4th race to tie for the second fastest clocking of :13.81 seconds. Jose Sanchez III saddled the son of champion and first crop sire Open Me A Corona.

Eddie Sanchez rode the $50,000 LQHBA Yearling Sale repurchase out of the RG2-placed Dashin Bye mare Corona Dashin Bye. the second dam is the stakes-placed and stakes-producing Corona Cartel mare Corona Cerveza. This is the family of champions Sixy Chick, Gotta Get and champion sire Sixarun.

Trainer Leon Bard and Jose Sanchez III led all trainers on Friday with three wins each on the training card.

Bard saddled Grandbovet to victory in in Race 14, No Ec Feat in Race 12 and Leading The Game in Race 10.

Jose Sanchez III got three winners with A Double Corona in Race 4, Ec Jet Chrome in Race 6 and Apollitical Pushing in Race 8.

First crop sire Ec Jet One was the only sire with multiple winners on Friday, with the aforementioned No Ec Feat and Ec Jet Chrome.

Other sires with winners included American Runaway, Apollitical Jess, Corona Cartel, Dealagame, Jet Black Patriot, One Famous Diamond and Separatist.
