Painted Dynasty Fastest Qualifier to Gopher State Derby at Canterbury Park

Painted Dynasty Fastest Qualifier to Gopher State Derby at Canterbury Park

SHAKOPEE, MN—MAY 26, 2018—The first trials of the 2018 Canterbury Park meet were held on Saturday for the $34,150 Gopher State Derby, and Painted Dynasty posted the fastest qualifying time of three trials.

Painted Dynasty ($3.20) and jockey Ry Eikleberry covered the 400-yard distance in 20.180 in the second trial, defeating fifth-fastest qualifier Who Rah and Jorge Torres by a half-length.

The 3-year-old filly is trained by the leading trainer of the last two Canterbury Park Quarter Horse meets, Jason Olmstead. She is owned by Tom Scheckel and was bred in Oklahoma by Michael Teel.

Painted Dynasty is a daughter of FDD Dynasty and is out of the Pyc Paint Your Wagon mare Tygers Painted Girl. Tygers Painted Girl is out of Regally Rare, making her a half-sister to multiple graded stakes winner Ajs High.

The second fastest qualifier, Marfilmio, came out of the third and final trial. Marfilmio ($5.00) and jockey Ismael Suarez Ricardo defeated Cr Lota Girl and Jorge Torres by a neck in 20.220.

Marfilmio, owned by David and Debra Harsche, is trained by Vic Hanson. The 3-year-old colt was bred in Texas by Bobby Cox, by Ivory James and out of Sinuous, by Mr Jess Perry.

In 2017, Marfilmio also qualified for and ran second in the $52,600 NCQHRA Futurity at Canterbury Park.

The Canterbury Park card opened with the first trial of the day for the Gopher State Derby and the winner, First of 15, was the heaviest favorite and the third fastest qualifier. First of 15 ($3.00) and jockey Denny Velazquez came home in 20.24 over a length ahead of the rest of the field.

First Of 15 is also trained by Jason Olmstead and is owned by Richard Tobin. The daughter of Apollitical Jess is out of the Corona Cartel mare Tinys Corona Queen and was bred in Oklahoma by James and Marilyn Helzer.

First Of 15's full sister, Lynnder 16, recently won the $864,500 Remington Park Oklahoma Bred Futurity (RG2), also trained by Olmstead and owned by Tobin and Tom Maher.

Per AQHA rule 305.10, trial times for the Gopher State Derby were determined using video replay.
