Sweetwater Downs Hosts Bevy of Trials on Sunday Card

ROCK SPRINGS, WY—AUGUST 23, 2015—Sweetwater Downs carded trials for three different stakes on Sunday's race card.

Sweetwater Claiming Futurity

Two trials were contested for the $15,000 Sweetwater Claiming Futurity on Sunday's race card. All entrants has to be entered for a claiming price of $5,000. One of the 15 head that started was claimed. The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to Sweetwater Downs on Sunday, September 6 to compete in the 350 yard finale.

Jess My Move broke his maiden in the second trial to set the top qualifying mark of :17.786, a 90 speed index for owner Leeanne Christensen. Ryan Christensen saddled the son of multiple stakes sire Jess My Moon out of Movin Susie, by Noble Pride. Jesus Virgen had the riding call on the sorrel gelding that has compiled a (3) 1-0-1 record.

Kynis Foose also broke her maiden when she won the first trial by a neck over Courageous Backsplash to set the third fastest time of :18.009 seconds. Chancey Spencer saddled the daughter of leading sire Foose for A and C Racing and Roping. Bred in Utah by Chad Richard, Kynis Foose was ridden by Tyson Lusk. Out of the Brookstone Bay mare Kyni Girl, the brown filly's record stands at (4) 1-0-2.

The only horse in the trials to get claimed was 10th qualifier Goin Pro who finished fourth in the first trial. Owner K.C. Carden and trainer Jesse Villegas claimed the Dashin Bye gelding from owners Gary and Jeralyn Messenger and trainer Monty Arrossa. Oscar Cervantes was aboard the Texas-bred from the Streakin La Jolla mare Party Girl Affair. He has placed second once in two starts.

89 & Under Stakes

Heza Shark flew from the gate under jockey Russell Vicchrilli and held off Political Chick by a nose to set the fastest time of the 89 & Under Stakes (not black-type) at Sweetwater Downs on Sunday. The Red Storm Cat gelding completed the 350 yards in :17.381 seconds to earn a 102 speed index. It was the second and straight win and third career victory for the 3-year-old.

Terry Vondy conditions the Oklahoma-bred gelding for himself and Milton Vondy. M.C. and Cendy Stucks bred Heza Shark from the Fishers Dash mare Finn Furr. He has earned $16,122.

Political Chick, a Kentucky-bred daughter of leading sire Apollitical Jess, held on to the second fastest time of :17.394 seconds, also a 102 speed index. Oscar Cervantes had the riding assignment aboard the gray filly for trainer Alvaro Torres and owner Jon Lane Henderson.

Bred by Robert Gentry, Political Chick is out of the Chicks Beduino mare Fearless Chick. A winner of three races, the she has earned $13,027.

The 10 fastest qualifiers, from the three trial races on Sunday, will return to Sweetwater Downs on Sunday, September 6 and vie for the winner's share of a $15,000-added purse going 350 yards. For the complete list of finalists CLICK HERE.

Wyoming Bred Derby

Eyes Special River defeated Fly For McKoy by 1˝ lengths in the last of two trials for the Wyoming Bred Derby on Sunday at Sweetwater Downs. The fastest qualifiers will return to the Wyoming racecourse on Saturday, September 5 to compete for the winner's share of a $12,500-added purse going 400 yards.

Jesse Villegas saddled Eyes Special River to her fifth win in 15 starts for owner/breeder Broken Bones Cattle Company. Ridden by Luis Peralta, the Eyesa Special Slim filly completed the 400 yards in :19.642 seconds to earn a 98 speed index.

Already a stakes winner, the chestnut miss has earned $23,418. She is out of the First N Six mare Streakin Camilla.

Lil Shameless Sage went wire-to-wire in the first trial to post the third fastest time of :19.899 seconds, a 92 speed index. Also a stakes winning daughter of Eyesa Special Slim bred by Broken Bones Cattle Company, Lil Shameless Sage is owned by Juanita J. Villegas.

Jesse Villegas conditions the sorrel filly out of Lil Shameless Agent, by First N Six. The four-time winner has earned $22,855.
