TQHA Sale Graduate Dm Nite Hawk Sets Top Mark In Day 1 $397,702 Louisiana Downs Futurity(G2) Trials

BOSSIER CITY, LA–MARCH 7, 2024–Dm Nite Hawk, a son of second-crop sire Hawkeye, posted the fastest time from seven trials on Day 1 of 2 days of trials for the Grade 2 $397,702 Louisiana Downs Futurity Thursday afternoon at Louisiana Downs.

The five fastest qualifiers from today will join the five fastest qualifiers from Friday (Mar 8) seven trials when they return to Louisiana Downs on March 30 to vie for a $178,965 winner's purse going 300 yards. The $397,702 purse is a highest purse in history for the Louisiana Downs Futurity(G2).

Ridden by jockey Eleazar, Dm Nite Hawk raced to a 1-3/4 length win in the opening trial Thursday to record the fastest qualifying time of :15.570, a 94 speed index into a 5 mph headwind.

Trainer Daniel Luna saddled the $8,000 TQHA Yearling Sale graduate for owner Juan Servin.  Donna Mushinski bred the sorrel gelding in Texas from the Panther Mountain mare Mountain Affair, a half-sister to two black type including PCQHRA Breeders' Derby(G2) winner Jessanotheraffair.

"We were a little surprised, said.Luna. "My owner Juan Servin brought 10 yearlings at last year‘s TQHA yearling sale. This horse was the cheapest! Just $8000. We really enjoyed meeting breeder, Donna Mushinski she is a very nice lady! We are very happy that he qualified today, we have two more in tomorrow, so we’ll just wait and see! "

Voodoo Child Sc, a $75,000 TQHA Yearling Sale repurchase for owner Jose Espinosa was a neck winner in trial 5 to get the second fastest clocking of :15.688 seconds, a 90 speed index into a 5 mph headwind.

Also trained by Espinosa, the daughter of multiple stakes sire Kiss My Hocks is out of TQHA Sale Futurity(RG3) winner Grey Daze by Captain Courage. Voodoo Child Sc is a sister to Dash For Cash Juvenile winner Greysland. Alfredo Garza Rodriguez is the breeder.
