Gelding Tops Heritage Place Winter Mixed Sale Opener Thursday, Across-the-Board Gains In Session 1

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—JANUARY 12, 2022—Sc Divas Cartel Man, a 4-year-old stakes-placed winning son of leading sire Corona Cartel, topped the opening session of the 43rd annual Heritage Place Winter Mixed Sale on Thursday with a bid of $185,000.

The 2022 first session was up over last year’s day one of a two-day sale, with 245 of the 275 offered selling for gross receipts of $5,018,000 compared to $4,598,400 on the first day in 2021. The average rose to $20,482 compared to $17,484 a year-ago and the median was up to $14,000 on day one compared to $12,000 in 2021.

"Day 1 of the Winter Mixed 2022 sale finished strong with a 17% increase over the opening day last year. Eighty-nine percent of the horses offered were sold and we had a great crowd on hand for the today," Heritage Place General Manager Spence Kidney said Thursday night.

Daniel Herrera signed the $185,000 ticket for Thursday’s high-seller, Hip 232 SC Divas Cartel Man. Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent for Reliance Ranches, LLC consigned the stakes-placed earner of $208,803. Out of the three-time AQHA Racing Champion mare Spit Curl Diva, Sc Divas Cartel Man was second in the Pat Hyland Memorial Handicap and a finalist in the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity(G1), Ed Burke Million Futurity(G1) and Los Alamitos Super Derby(G1).

Simmons Racing purchased the high-selling mare on Thursday, Hip 267 B Boujee, for $127,000. Marty Powers, Agent for Running Down A Dream consigned the 4-year-old Tres Seis mare out of stakes winner Glory Rider by Valiant Hero.

The stakes-placed earner of $42,404 will be bred this year to Simmons owned Grade 1 winner Gold Heart Eagle V and champion sire Tempting Dash for her first foal(s).

Dunn Ranch, Agent for Valeriano Racing consigned the third high-seller on Thursday, multiple stakes sire Jess Lips. Maximiliono Perez paid $120,000 for the 13-year-old Mr Jess Perry stallion out of Loose Lips by First Down Dash. Sold as Hip 271, Jess Lips has sired earners of nearly $2 million from limited starters in five crops to reach the track. His biggest money earner Im Jess Special V ($523,862) ran second in the Grade 1 All American Futurity at Ruidoso Downs.

Brian Gunder was the opening day leading buyer with five purchases grossing $187,000. Daniel Herrera was second with the one for $185,000 and Rachuan Suarez MVZ paid $143,500 for three head.

Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent for Reliance Ranches, LLC was the day 1 leading consignor or agent with 15 head grossing $498,500. Marty Powers, Agent sold 12 head for $308,500 and Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent had 13 head for $282,500.

The leading short-yearling sire on day 1 (by average, two or more sold) was Dominyun with two just turned yearlings averaging $23,000. Teller Cartel had two for $13,250 and Coronado Cartel had two for $11,250.

Third-crop sire One Fabulous Eagle was the leading covering sire in session 1 (by average, two or more sold) with three in-foal mares averaging $25,000. Big Lew had two in-foal mares for $22,500 average and Docs Best Card saw three in-foal mares average $21,833.

Friday's second session will get underway at 10:00 a.m. and will feature Hips 313 thru 622. Breeding's to FDD Dynasty, First Down Dash, Jess Good Candy, Kiss My Hocks and Teller Cartel will be sold Friday to benefit the Sam Thompson Foundation.

OQHRA will hold a reception in the restaurant and club immediately following Friday's session.

Saturday's closing session will get underway promptly at 10:00 a.m. offering Hips 623 thru 933.
