Cowboy 109 Wins Juvenile, Im Hott Ur Nott and L Bar D Sweet Fantsy Dead-Heat in Distaff

GRANDE PRAIRIE, ALB—AUGUST 21, 2016—Cowboy 109 won the John Deere Evergreen Park Juvenile Challenge and Im Hott Ur Nott dead-heated with L Bar D Sweet Fantsy in the Merial Evergreen Park Distaff Challenge on Sunday at Evergreen Park in Grande Prairie. Both horses will now advance in their respective divisions to the Bank of America Challenge Championship Night at Los Alamitos Race Course October 29th.

John Deere Evergreen Park Juvenile Challenge

Under jockey Jose Rocha Cowboy 109 got up by a neck over North Pine Special to win the $28,528(US) John Deere Evergreen Park Juvenile Challenge Sunday afternoon. Jesses Claim Ta Fame finished a head back in a blanket finish for third.

Buckey Stockwell saddled the son of Favorite Cartel to his second win in six starts for owners Bob Perlich, Bob Hinken and Bob McCutcheon. He completed the 350 yards in :18.106 seconds, a 91-speed index into a 15 mph crosswind.

Bred in California by Steve Burns, DVM, Cowboy 109 has picked up $13,694(US) to boost his earnings total to $20,175. He is out of the On A High mare Pretty Jet High.

The win also garnered Cowboy 109 a starting spot in the Grade 2 $150,000-Guaranteed John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship on October 29th at Los Alamitos Race Course.

North Pine Special, a son of Oak Tree Special form the Hawkinson mare Hawks Halo, races for owners Shylo Penrod and Teagan Goodsell. Allen Goodsell trains with Juan Apango riding. The gelding earned $7,526 for the effort.

Hector Magallanes saddled third place finisher Jesses Claim Ta Fame for owner Chris Philbrook. Ronald Raley bred the Jesse James Jr gelding in Oregon from the Dash Ta Fame mare One Fast Trick. Ridden by Tyler Walker he picked up $3,671.

Zerelda James, Honor The Fast Man, Dashin By All and Scarface Judge completed the field. Surly was scratched.

Merial Evergreen Distaff Challenge

The photo-finish camera could not separate Im Hott Ur Nott and L Bar D Sweet Fantsy in Sunday's $25,714 Merial Evergreen Distaff Challenge at Evergreen Park.

The win was worth $8,999 each plus a chance to start in the Grade 1 $125,000 Merial Distaff Challenge Championship on October 29th at Los Alamitos Race Course.

The pair completed the 400 yards in :20.390 seconds, a 90-speed index into a 15 mph crosswind.

Im Hott Ur Nott, a multiple stakes winning daughter of Tres Seis, races for owner Ralph Denard and is trained by Laurie Ferguson. Dean Frey bred the filly in California from the First Down Dash mare Wild California Rose. Ramiro Castillo rode the earner of more than $85,000.

The Merial Evergreen was the first stakes win for L Bar D Sweet Fantsy, a 4-year-old daughter of Fantastic Corona Jr owned by Roberto Ponce and trainer by Hectro Magallanes.

Darrell and Linda Sanders bred the brown filly in Oregon from the Strawfly Special mare Down Home Deb. Ridden by Tyler Walker, she has earned $25,181.

Gone Fast, a 3-year-old daughter of Meter Me Lucky out of Beautiful Ashlee, by Hawkinson, finished third for owner/breeder Phoenix Farms. Stan Webb conditions and Scott Sterr had the riding call. Gone Fast earned $2,500 for her effort.

Quad Seis, Splashy Mamacita, Kiddys Down and Cybil completed the field.
