GRAND PRAIRIE, TX–OCTOBER 21, 2025—Saturday’s card at Lone Star Park brings a highly anticipated evening of Quarter Horse racing, with twelve races on tap and two significant sets of trial heats taking center stage. The Texas Classic Oaks and Texas Classic Derby trials will feature a deep pool of talented sophomore runners, all vying for a coveted spot in the November 15 finals of their respective divisions.

The Oaks trials, comprising races four through seven, will spotlight thirty-one three-year-old fillies each running 400 yards. The ten fastest times will earn qualification to the $247,588 Texas Classic Oaks final.

The first trial heat gets underway in race four, scheduled for approximately 7:23 PM, and features All American Oaks (G1) winner Karmalites as the 5-2 morning line favorite. The daughter of Marfa Lights, out of Cartel Karma by Corona Cartel, has built a resume of top-level stakes success, including wins in the $214,000 Four Corners Futurity and the (G3) Ruidoso Downs Juvenile Challenge. She was also third in both the (G3) La Fiesta Futurity and this year’s (G3) West Texas Derby.

With career earnings of $574,812, she enters the trials in top form for trainer Jorge Luis Sanchez Jr. and owner Fabian Muniz Porras, who acquired her for just $12,000 at the Heritage Place Sale. Luis Martinez retains the mount and will guide her from post position six.

The fifth race features Bold N Beautiful, tabbed at even shorter 4-5 odds in the second trial heat. A Freighttrain B filly out of Always Dreaming by Run Away and Hide (TB), she represents the powerful Gentry Farms breeding and racing operation. S

he enters under the care of trainer John A. Stinebaugh. With Francisco Calderon aboard, she breaks from post position six.

These fillies, along with the remainder of the trial entries, will be looking to post one of the top ten times of the evening to secure a spot in the Oaks finale, with a 400-yard dash separating them from a shot at the $200,000 prize and Oaks glory.

Texas Classic Derby(G1) Trials

Later in the evening, trials for the Texas Classic Derby will be staged in races nine through eleven. A full field of thirty-six three-year-olds will battle it out over 440 yards for the ten fastest times to advance to the $281,505 final, also slated for November 15.

The trials begin around 9:33 PM, culminating in the highly anticipated eleventh race, featuring standout contender Hezgothelook Z as the 2-1 morning line favorite. The Favorite Cartel gelding out of Shezgothelook by FDD Dynasty was bred in Oklahoma by Tommy Dinwiddie and is campaigned by Triple One Ranch, LLC and purchased him for $70,000 at the Heritage Place Sale.

Edith A. Mojica trains Hezgothelook Z and will be piloted by regular rider Bryan Candanosa from post six. Though he had a troubled start in his recent 110-yard outing, he showed promise in a previous 220-yard breeze, clocking in at 12.33 seconds.

Just Dulce, winner of the (G2) $156,000 Dash For Cash Derby earlier this month, is challenging him in the same heat. At 5-2 odds, the Jess Good Candy colt trained by 2024 Champion Trainer Marc E. Jungers has already banked $112,466 from four wins and a runner-up finish in seven starts.

He was bred in Texas by Bob & Jerry Gaston and races for the Just Dulce Partnership, who acquired him for $385,000 from the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale. Christian Ramos will ride from the rail in post one.

With both the Oaks and Derby trials showcasing some of the most accomplished and promising sophomores in the country, Saturday night at Lone Star Park promises top-tier Quarter Horse action. It sets the stage for a thrilling November 15 championship finale.
