GRANTS PASS, OR–October 10, 2025A strong ten-race program is on tap this Sunday afternoon at Grants Pass Downs, highlighted by the running of the $30,000-added Far West Futurity Final. The seventh race on the card will feature a field of ten sharp two-year-olds—each among the fastest qualifiers from the September 21st trial heats—set to battle over 400 yards at approximately 3:30 PM.

Topping the field as the 3-1 morning line favorite is Kr Cartels Calamity, a talented colt who cruised to a convincing trial victory while setting the fastest qualifying time. Already a four-time winner from seven starts, the colt has notched career earnings of $54,512, including a major score earlier this season in the $97,000 Beehive Futurity.

By Five Bar Cartel and out of the Foose mare Kr Calamity, Kr Cartels Calamity was bred in Colorado by Kidd Ranch and purchased for $12,000 at the Heritage Place Sale by owner Luis A. Gonzales. He is trained by Jose A. Rosales Gomez and will break from post position five under regular rider Cesar T. Moreno, who has been aboard for all of the colt’s victories.

Set to challenge him is Mommas Cartel, the 9-2 second choice on the morning line. The Texas-bred filly delivered a gritty effort to win her trial and will enter the final with two wins and two runner-up finishes from four career starts, with $8,828 in earnings. She’s proven to be ultra-consistent, having never finished worse than second.

Sired by Favorite Cartel and out of the FDD Dynasty mare Mommas Dynasty, Edward J. and Von Zae McNelis bred Mommas Cartel, and races for Edward J. McNelis. She is trained by Javier Fuentes, with Jose R. Herbert assigned to guide her from post eight.

This year’s Far West Futurity has drawn a wide-open group of promising juveniles, many of whom have already flashed serious potential and improvement in their brief careers. With a strong blend of stakes experience and up-and-coming talent, the 400-yard dash is set to deliver a thrilling finish to the juvenile futurity season in the Pacific Northwest.

As the centerpiece of Sunday’s program, the Far West Futurity Final is expected to draw strong attention from bettors and breeders alike, with several future stars likely to emerge from this key regional event.
