OGDEN, UT–May 31, 2025–In a sharp field of maiden competitors, Shiza A Turbo delivered a commanding performance to win the $38,970 Maiden Frolic Stakes (not black type) at Weber Downs on Saturday. The race, open to three-year-olds and older that remained eligible to the series, contested over 330 yards on a fast track.
The bay filly Shiza A Turbo, ridden by jockey Julian Zavala, surged from the outside post to cross the wire in 16.693 seconds. Shiza A Turbo crossed the wire a half-length ahead of Open Soon and jockey Oma Iturralde, clocking a 98 speed index on the fast track.
Bred in Wyoming by Pedro Mena, the 3-year-old filly is out of Line in the Night, by Teller Cartel. Shiza A Turbo has lit the board four of five starts, and her season debut win added $16,368 to her bankroll, boosting her career earnings to $22,938. Trainer Luis Ruiz owns the daughter of Glock in partnership with Juan Ruiz.

Runner-up Open Soon broke sharply from the rail, showing early speed and held on well for second, clocking in at 16.770 seconds. Open Soon is trained by Clay Teeter for owner Burke Teeter, who purchased him for $6,500 in the Heritage Place Fall Mixed Sale.
Open Soon broke his maiden earlier in the season. The son of Open Me A Corona has earned $17,092 from nine starts. Curtis Crenwelge bred the four-year-old gelding in Texas out of Jess Gone Braggin by Gone To The Mountain.
In third was Donnette Dynasty, ridden by Tyson Lusk. The filly broke alertly and ran a determined race, finishing with a time of 16.803 seconds.
Trainer Jessica Hadley owns Donnette Dynasty in partnership with Tom Close. Jordan and Jessica Hadley bred the three-year-old daughter of FDD Dynasty in Utah.
Sassquach, Special Buddy Bc, Ronnie Racer, Ramerician Girl, One Toxic Lady, Executive Cash, and our First Ferrari round out the order of finish.
In the $10,000 Consolation Stakes, race seven on the evening’s card, Gk Runnning Debruyne delivered a sharp performance to win the 330-yard sprint. Breaking from post five, the sorrel gelding surged from the outside and held strong to the wire, stopping the clock at 17.139 seconds.
Ridden by Oscar Cervantes, the Utah-bred son of Runnning Separatist out of Shes An Uno by One Dashing Eagle was bred, owned, and trained by Gerardo Medina. Separate Bankss finished second for owner Waterson Bros Family Partners and trainer Chris Mitchell, with Minor Arana aboard. Mischief Managed Hr rounded out the top three under Jose Figueroa for trainer Mark Hanson and owner Michelle Hanson
