SAN ANTONIO, TX–JULY 26, 2025–A surge of six-figure yearlings, led by standout Hip 294 Hezgettinpaid Z, helped fuel stronger results on Day 2 of the TQHA Yearling Sale in San Antonio.
This year’s sale saw 256 of 413 yearlings sold, totaling $5,828,800 in gross receipts. While that figure marked a drop from last year’s record-setting $7,262,700, averages dipped slightly to $22,769 per head—down from $25,505 in 2024. The median fell to $13,000 compared to $15,750 last year.
Commanding top dollar on Saturday was Hezgettinpaid Z, a bay colt by Apollitical Jess and a half-brother to Hezgotthelook Z, winner of the All American Futurity (G1). Consigned by Robicheaux Ranch Inc., Agent for Slash Z Quarter Horses, the colt was purchased for $155,000 by Clark Brewster and Simmons Racing.
Hip 345 Pancho Bigotes, another son of Apollitical Jess, was the second-highest seller of the session. MI Serenity LLC signed the ticket for $150,000 on the full brother to Heritage Place Futurity (G1) winner Inaugurator and Grace 2 victor Roman Soldier Cd. C3 Speed Horses, Agent for El Patron Stables LLC, consigned the sorrel colt out of Famous Phoebe, a stakes-winning daughter of Dash Ta Fame.
Hip 331 Lord Baltimore rounded out the top three sellers, bringing $120,000. The Favorite Cartel colt was consigned by Bobby D. Cox and purchased by Jerry Deville Jr. Out of the Corona Cartel mare Messynger—a runner-up in the Rainbow Juvenile—a half-brother to stakes winners San Lorenzo Tay and Thriving Ivory.
MI Serenity LLC and Jerry Deville Jr. tied as leading sale buyers, each purchasing two yearlings totaling $200,000 each. Jaime Cardenas was the third highest buyer, acquiring five yearlings for $175,000.
Bielau Oaks, Agent, topped the consignor ranks with 24 head sold for a gross of $384,000. Bobby D. Cox followed with eight head totaling $356,500, while Granada Farms, Agent for Tyler & Naia Graham, sold four for $319,000.
Among sires, Apollitical Jess led the way by average (minimum two sold), with three yearlings averaging $121,667. Favorite Cartel followed with two head, averaging $101,000, and FDD Dynasty had six, averaging $53,333. First-crop sire Golden Boi impressed with four yearlings averaging $31,250.
