$77,000 Ruidoso Select Graduate Dark Water Bay Favored To Win John Deere Juvenile Challenge Trial

MEXICO CITY, MEX–MAY 29, 2025–A total of nineteen juveniles will participate in two trials this Sunday at the Hipodromo de las Americas, aiming to secure a spot among the ten qualifiers for the $30,000-added John Deere Hipodromo de las Americas Juvenile Challenge finals scheduled for June 22.

The 5-2 morning-line favorite from race eight is Sjm Cowboy Desires, who is only one of two contenders in the trials to have broken his maiden. He is coming off a two-length victory on May 11 in his debut start.

Trainer Antonio Garcia will saddle Sjm Cowboy Desires for owner Cuadra Alpuyeca. The son of leading sire Flying Cowboy 123 will run from the inside post under jockey Heriberto Camacho.

Sjm Cowboy Desires is out of the Desirio mare Hi Ho Desirio. Sammy Manek bred last year’s $27,500 Heritage Place Yearling Sale graduate in Oklahoma.

The second pick from trial one is Rg Naughty Angel, starting from post five under jockey Alejandro Gomez on 3-1 early odds. Bred by Bobby D. Cox, the son of champion sire Favorite Cartel, is owned by Rancho Las Gaviotas.

Marlon Quezada trains the Mexican-bred colt out of All About Perri by Mr Jess Perry. Going into the trials with three career starts, Rg Naughty Angel placed third in The Prize Classic earlier this season.

From the second trial heat, race nine on Sunday’s card, Dark Water Bay will start from post two under the guidance of Heriberto Camacho. The son of Mr Jess Perry placed second in his debut start in The Prize Classic on April 27.

Bred in Oklahoma by Mike Vaughan, the $77,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale graduate is out of Aqua Girl by Corona Cartel. Trainer Antonio Garcia conditions Dark Water Bay for owner Cuadra Alpuyeca.

Cuadra Alpuyeca also owns Fdd Star, who is competing under Francisco Guerrero in trial two from the five hole at 3-1 early odds. Antonio Garcia is the trainer.

Jerry Windham bred Fdd Star in Texas out of the Shazoom mare Viborita. The gelding son of world champion sire FDD Dynasty was purchased for $45,000 in the TQHA Yearling Sale.
