Pair of Arrossa Trainees Top Qualifiers to IQHA Idaho Cup Futurity

IDAHO FALLS, ID— JULY 12, 2019—Zoom On Jess won his third career race and became the fastest qualifier to the $10,000-added IQHA Idaho Cup Futurity in trials on Friday evening at Sandy Downs. The 350-yard final will be held on July 24.

Zoom On Jess ($5.20) and jockey Jesus Flores finished in 17.713 and earned a speed index of 90. Gary and Jeralyn Messenger own and bred the gelding in Idaho, by Jess Zoomin and out of Feature Miss Fame, by Feature Mr Jess. He is trained by Monty Arrossa, who trains three of the qualifiers to the final.

This was the third win in five career starts for the gelding; he broke his maiden at Weber and won his trial for the Bitterroot Futurity, in which he finished fourth.

Zoom On Jess won the second of three trials in a gate-to-wire effort and defeated second fastest qualifier Unique Ways by three-quarters of a length.

Unique Ways, also from the barn of Monty Arrossa, was ridden by Eric Ayala. Bred and owned by Dan Moon, Unique Ways has never been out of the money in her four career starts, including wins at Jerome and Pocatello and a second-place finish in the Roche Equine Futurity.

Unique Ways is by Teller Cartel and is out of the Hadtobenuts mare Wayward Wings, who won the Hawthorne Futurity at Sandy Downs in 2011. As the second fastest qualifier, she posted a time of 17.829 in the trial.

Third fastest qualifier Shez too Special won the first of the three trials on the card. Ridden by Jose Figueroa for trainer Angie Thomson, Shez Too Special broke her maiden in the trial.

Shez too Special is an Idaho homebred for Jesus Duenas, by Bodacious Dash and out of Shez Snazzy Ivory, by Ivory James. The filly debuted and ran second at Pocatello Downs before her last two efforts at Sandy; this will be her first appearance in a stakes race.
