VINTON, LA—JUNE 7, 2019—In the Firecracker Derby(G3) trials Friday night at Delta Downs, Mia Jet In defeated Grade 2 winner Fm Im A Zatanaz Too in the first of three trials to post the fastest qualifying time for the $186,925 final, which will be held on July 3.

The multiple stakes-placed Kenneth Weeks trainee covered 400 yards over a fast track in a time of :19.746, which equaled a speed index of 91.

The 3-year-old Jet Black Patriot filly is owned-and-bred by Lester Colomb, Jr. and was ridden to victory by jockey. Luciano Duenez. The win was the sixth of Mia Jet In’s 11-race career.

Bred in Alabama, from the Pyc Paint Your Wagon mare Pyc First Prize Mia, Mia Jet In was second in the Old South Futurity at Delta last season and third in the Evangeline Downs Futurity last December. She has earned $90,964.

Owner-breeder Jorge Haddad qualified three finalists to the Firecracker Derby including second fastest Santander, a colt by FDD Dynasty from the Feature Mr Jess mare Im A Feature Girl. Francisco Calderon rode the colt to a half-length win in the final trial to get the second fastest clocking of :19.755 seconds.

Haddad's other finalist include 7th fastest qualifier Anasttasia, from the Kenneth Roberts, Sr. barn and 9th fastest Sallvatore, also trained by Taylor.

The aforementioned Fm Im A Zatanaz Too held on for the third fastest clocking of :19.804 seconds, a 90 speed index. Trainer Robi Meche conditions last year's Sam Houston Futurity(G2) winner for owner Jose Fabian Hernandez. McColee Land & Livestock, Inc. bred the Tempting Dash gelding in Utah from the Mr Jess Perry mare Dashingfordestiny. He won six races and earned more than $303,000.
