OGDEN, UT—APRIL 27, 2019—Valentina Relentless broke her maiden Saturday in a dominating 1-˝ length win over Pitchforks Panther in the $51,448 Golden Spike Futurity at Weber Downs. Vf Silverback finished half-a-length back in third.
Ridden by jockey Alan Miramontes, Valentina Relentless completed the 300 yards in :15.613 seconds, a 96 speed index. She entered the race off a second-place effort to the fastest qualifier in the Golden Spike trials on April 13th. The $20,578 winners' purse boosted the sorrel filly earnings to $20,878.
Fastest qualifier Pitchforks Panther put in a sharp effort under jockey Ramiro Garcia to pick up $10,289 for second. Trainer Roberto Treto conditions the gelded son of multiple stakes sire Dominyun for owner Victor Ortiz. The Painted Pitchfork bred Pitchforks Panther in Colorado from the Panther Mountain mare Special Lady Panther.
Oklahoma-bred Vf Silverback earned $5,144 for his third-place effort. Jay Pitcher conditions the Ivory James colt for owners Kyle and Kelly Cook. The $16,500 Heritage Place Sale graduate is by multiple stakes sire Ivory James from the Mr Jess Perry mare Perrys Folly. Victory Farms is the breeder and Oscar Cervantes had the riding assignment.
Chance To Be, Pitchforks Panther, Vf Silverback, Chance To Be, Clear Winn Flyer, Jims Highlite, Wagonfullofdarlings, Jr Czech Dynasty, Billy The Greight and My Sweet Mia completed the field.
