Louisiana Seis Fastest From Three Trials For TQHA Sire's Cup Derby

SELMA, TX—AUGUST 18, 2018—Coming off a fifth-place effort in the Firecracker Derby on June 30, Louisiana Seis posted an impressive three-quarter length win in the last of three trials for the TQHA Sires' Cup Derby Saturday night at Retama Park.

Ridden by jockey J. R. Ramirez, Louisiana Seis completed the 400 yard task in :20.069 seconds into a 16 mph headwind, to earn a 92 speed index and set the top qualifying mark.

Trainer Jose Lopez saddled the son of champion sire The Louisiana Cartel for owners Jose Espinosa, Kenneth Blouch and Christine Blouch. Bred in Texas by Richard Arizpe, from the Tres Seis mare Seis Passes, Louisiana Seis has compiled a (10) 3-3-1 record and banked $24,646.

The gray gelding has also qualified for the Sam Houston Juvenile Challenge(G3) and Gillespie County Fair Futurity Juvenile Stakes.

Ebrima, a daughter of grade 1 sire Captain Courage, finished second to Louisiana Seis, holding on to the second fastest clocking of :20.192 seconds.

Jesse Lee Levario rode the brown filly for owner Ruben Garcia Montemayor and trainer Alonso Neri.

Second in the TQHA Sire's Cup Futurity(RG2) last year, the filly out of Mcm Dont Look Back by First To Shine, has earned more than $112,000.

Neri also saddled 4th fastest qualifier, Poise N Courage, another Captain Courage filly owned by Almada Racing.

Yasmine Fierro is the only additional trainer with two qualifiers, getting 6th fastest First Lady Eleanor and 7th fastest Bush Temp into the September 1st final.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will faceoff in the $25,000-added 400 yard derby final on Saturday, September 1 at Retama Park.
