EDMONTON, AB—JUNE 15, 2018—Free Thought paid the people at the Northlands on Friday night and put on a clinic for the field in the $12,500 Edmonton 770 Classic Stakes. The stakes race was the eighth consecutive win for the 7-year-old gelding.

Free Thought ($2.80) and Ricardo Moreno won the 770-yard race in 39.420 and earned a speed index of 111. He is a specialist going around the turn, particularly at 770 yards, with five wins in seven starts at the unique distance.

The son of Stel Corona is out the Pritzi Dash mare Just Think; he was bred in California by Ed Allred. William Leech trains Free Thought for owner Charles Stojan.

In 40 career starts, Free Thought has 18 wins, earnings of $80,854, and has only finished out of the money in six races. His current win streak extends back to June 10, 2017 and includes four different tracks.

Juno Dat Timber and Caesar Cervantes finished in second place in the second Quarter Horse race of the night at Northlands. The duo closed to finish a length behind Free Thought and three-quarters of a length ahead of Kr Streakin Version.

Wesley Oulton bred, owns and trains the son of First Timber, who has earned over $86,000. Juno Dat Timber is bred for the distance, out of the Snowbound mare Dashing Snowbound.

The Alberta-bred 6-year-old is a two-time qualifier to the AQHA Distance Challenge Championship (G1).

Third place in the short field went to Kr Streakin Version, who gained an early lead but was soon passed by the winner and Juno Dat Timber. Previously, Kr Streakin Version was undefeated in two attempts at the distance.

Kr Streakin Version is a 10-year-old son of Latest Version, bred in Montana by Hermstad/Perry/Kyler. He is trained by Richard Aldoff, who also co-owns the gelding with Marvin Christensen. J. B. Botello had the call for Friday’s stakes race.

Kr Streakin Version was making his first start since his 2016 win in the Evergreen Park Distance Challenge at Grande Prairie, which he has won three times. He is a multiple stakes winner at 870 yards and has qualified for the AQHA Distance Challenge Championship multiple times.
