Lightly Raced Chainman Sets Top Mark in Hobbs America Futurity Trials

HOBBS, NM—SEPTEMBER 24, 2016—Lightly raced Chainman got his third win in four starts in the first of six trials on Saturday for the $300,000-est. Hobbs America Futurity(G2) a Zia Park. The Separatist colt posted the top qualifying mark of :19.794 seconds.

There was no wind in the first trial and half the field qualified from that race. The wind switched to a slight crosswind for trial two, then wavered back and fourth between a 3 and 4 mph headwind over the afternoon.

Harvey Baeza saddled Chainman for owner Benito Brito Arenivas. The bay colt broke is maiden at Ruidoso in June before finishing a troubled sixth in the July 9th Rainbow Futurity(G1) trials. Prior to the Hobbs trials the Chainman won an allowance at Zia Park on September 11th.

Kim Kessinger and RSG Racing, Ltd bred the colt in Texas from the Teller Cartel mare Ask The Question. He has earned $23,600.

21 Partnership's Lethal Flight finished half-a-length back in the first trial but held onto the second fastest clocking of :19.876 seconds. Antoinette Gonzales trains the Pyc Paint Your Wagon filly out of Lethal Delight, by Dean Miracle. Bred in Oklahoma P.K. Thomas, Lethal Flight has compiled a (5) 1-1-0 record.

Rainbow Futurity(G1) finalist Soar Like An Eagle broke his maiden in the second trial with a neck win over Valorous to get the fourth fastest time of :19.931 seconds. Samuel Robledo trains the Texas-bred colt out of Petrifying, by Feature Mr Jess, for owner Abelardo Gallegos. Fulton Quien Sabe Ranches, LP bred the $38,340 earner.

Heavy post-time favorite 2016 All American Futurity(G1) winner Imperial Eagle broke awkwardly in the second trial under Esgar Ramirez to finish eighth. The $1.5 million earner brought a four race win streak into the trials Saturday and had not lost race since finishing second in West Texas Futurity(G2) on April 30.
