Mini Mink Breaks Maiden, Sets Top Mark for Rocky Mountain Futurity Trials

Mini Mink Breaks Maiden, Sets Top Mark for Rocky Mountain Futurity Trials

AURORA, CO—JUNE 24, 2016—Mini Mink, under jockey Jose Vega, raced a nose victory over Bout Tree Fiddy Friday afternoon to get her first career win and set the fastest qualifying time for the Rocky Mountain Futurity at Arapahoe Park. The top three qualifiers came out of the first trial.

The 10 fastest qualifiers, from the 40 two-year-olds who participated in five trials races on Friday, will return to Arapahoe Park on Sunday, July 10th to vie for the winner's share of a $117,780 purse going 350 yards.

Owned by Larry and Michelle Rice, Mini Mink completed her 350-yard task in :17.617 seconds, a 94-speed index into a 2 mph headwind. After getting forced in early, the daughter of Carters Cartel was still able to post the fastest qualifying time.

Conditioned by Rudy Ramirez, Mini Mink entered the trials off a second place effort in a maiden start on May 30. A $5,500 Heritage Place September Yearling Sale graduate, the bay filly is out of A Runaway Jess, by Ocean Runaway. Donald Friesen is the breeder.

The aforementioned stakes-placed Bout Tree Fiddy finished with the second fastest time of :17.626 seconds. Jockey Russell Vicchrilli rode the Ivory James gelding for owner/breeders Patrick Swan and Carry Allred. Tomey Swan conditions the 2-year-old who was third in the Laico Bird Stakes at Remington Park in April. Out of the Fredricksburg mare Hollie Jollie, the Oklahoma-bred runner has earned $21,384 in four starts.

Crazy At The Top, a daughter of champion / second crop sire Prospect To The Top, won the last trial by half-a-length to get the fourth fastest time of :17.744 seconds, with a 4 mph tailwind.

Ridden by jockey Edwin Pena, the sorrel filly was making her second career start for owner Gustavo Gomez Reyes and trainer Donald Davidson, Jr. Also a Heritage Place Yearling Sale graduate, Crazy At The Top was bred in Texas, by Craig Lauger, from the Stel Corona mare Stel Crazy.

Cherry Creek Futurity winner In Ka Hoots kept his record a perfect 3-for-3 after winning the fourth trial and posting the fifth fastest time of :17.784 seconds, with a 6 mph tailwind.

John Hammes trains the homebred for owner/breeders Lisa Beauprez, Thomas Bradbury and Thomas Bradbury, Jr. Ridden by jockey Alfredo Triana, Jr., the son of first crop sire One Dashing Eagle has earned $36,922. He is out of the Shazoom mare Forever Bradgelina.
