OGDEN, UT—MAY 20, 2016—Flat Quarter horse racing returned to Ogden, Utah today and undefeated Bannister would not be denied Friday afternoon when he rolled to a 1¼ length win over Making Hot Wheels in the $69,175 Beehive Futurity. Fastest qualifier Bk Katmandu finished a neck back in the show position.

Ridden by jockey Tony Guymon, Bannister covered the 300 yards in a quick :15.372 clocking to set a new track record and earn a career high speed index of 106. The previous record of :15.620 was set August 21, 1992 by Brandys Nobel Pride.

Trainer Monty Arrosa saddled the Oklahoma-bred son of leading Intermountain sire Maknmoves for owners Denny and Sandy Weight. Bred in Oklahoma by J. Garvin Kelly and Nancy Yearsley the chestnut colt picked up $24,211 for the victory. He is out of the Mr Jess Perry mare Goddess Artemis.

A $6,200 Heritage Place September Sale graduate, Bannister's dam is a half-sister to El Primero Del Ano Derby(G2) winner Dutch Schultz and Southern California Derby(G1) winner Spike It And Fly. This is the family of G2 winner and G1 Ruidoso contender Royal Proclamation and RG3 winner Celtic Emblem.

Maknmoves also sired runner-up Making Hot Wheels, owned by Elias Escalera and trained by Ismael Salvidrez. Ridden by jockey Alan Miramontes the sorrel gelding earned $10,375 for the effort. Danny Haffer bred Making Hot Wheels in Colorado from the Proudest Effort mare Suni Rae.

Entering the race off the fastest qualifying time from the April 23rd trials at Laurel Brown, Bk Katmandu races for owner/breeder Bryce Moosman and is conditioned by Ron Moosman. Jesus Canales rode the gelding by second crop sire First Prize Stone out of Lotta Kat Moves, by Maknmoves. He picked up $6,920 for third.

Ar Cajungutee, Version Quest, Dashing Happy, Tilt James, Bf Covert Moves, Separate Moves and Bf One Sweet Memory completed the field.
