AJAX, ONT—OCTOBER 16, 2020—Ontario Quarter Horse owners, breeders and stallion owners get a chance to race their 2-year-olds for a big purse Monday (Oct. 19) in the $60,000 Ontario Sired Futurity at 330 yards on Ajax Downs' penultimate card of racing for 2020.

There are nine juveniles in the Futurity (race 7), all Ontario-breds by stallions standing in Ontario and owner James Bogar has several reasons to cheer for his black gelding Bogie Wheels, who comes into the race off an impressive maiden win Sept. 7.

Bogar not only owns the gelding but recently welcomed the youngster's sire El Night Shift to his farm in Cameron, ON to stand at stud.

Bogar has been expanding his racing and breeding involvement in Quarter Horse racing for several years. He won his first High Point Leading Owner title in 2019 and is leading all owners by wins going into the Oct. 19 card with 12 over Rick Crispi who has 11.

Bogie Wheels finished fourth in a Trial for the Ontario Bred Futurity and fourth in the final before his first career win when ridden by Tony Phillips. Bred by Four Leaf Racing, Bogie Wheels will start from post position 3.

The filly Jess Raven is the first horse owned by the racing group Raven Racing Syndicate which includes John Wilson of New Liskeard, George Coleman and trainer Scott Reid. Jess Raven finished third to Bogie Wheels in her career debut and promptly came back to break her maiden Sept. 28 by a head over a pair of Marie Broadstock-owned juveniles, Whos Hot Now and All Outta Sugar who are also in the Futurity field.

Jess Raven will be ridden by Brian Bell who returns Monday after missing a month with a hand injury.

There are also a trio of 2-year-olds owned and bred by the Picov Cattle Company in the race. Hanover Hill Lynda leads that team as she was a closing second to Bogie Wheels in her debut.

The complete lineup, in post-position order including jockey, trainer and morning-line odds are:

  1. Kitsawinner - T Harriott - P Garrison - 10/1
  2. Jess Raven - B Bell - S Reid - 4/1
  3. Bogie Wheels - T Phillips - B Wood - 3/1
  4. Hanover Hil - Lukas I Mosqueira - J Tavares - 8/1
  5. All Outta Sugar - C Jeschke - D Reid - 8/1
  6. Whos Hot Now - R S Castillo - B Broadstock - 7/2
  7. Winning Okie - L Desouza - P Garrison - 10/1
  8. Hanover Hill Lynda - E Walton - J Tavares - 6/1

Race 8 on the Oct. 19 card is the final leg of the $20,000 QROOI Sprint Series and a competitive field of 9 has been assembled for the 250 yard dash.

Carneros, winner of the first leg of the series and last year's Sprint Series champion, starts from post 8 for owner Milena Kwiecien and leading trainer Jason Pascoe. Ed Walton rides the 5-year-old who has been second to champion Country Boy 123 in his last two starts.

Also in the good field is Counytrs Comin Bac, winner of the Ontario bred Maturity and third last week in the Alex Picov Championship, only to be disqualified and placed fourth.
