88 Juveniles To Compete In Sunday’s Trials To $1,104,550 Golden State Million Futurity

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—OCTOBER 16, 2020—Graded futurity winners La Jaconde, Constituent and Aint She Tempting plus All American Futurity finalists Apollitical Gold and HR Princess Jess are among the 88 juveniles that will compete in a full night of 12 trials to the Grade 1 Golden State Million Futurity on Sunday at Los Alamitos Race Course.

The 12-race card will feature three Pick Four wagers beginning in races 1, 5, and 9. The horses with the 10 fastest times in the 400-yard trials will advance to the Golden State final on Sunday, November 1. The gross purse for the final is $1,104,550, the event’s highest since 2012. As for the 88 horses in the trials, that number represents a 22% increase from last season’s trials.

The opening heat will feature Link Newcomb’s Celtic Rhythm and Bollenbach Farms’ Corona Gypsie, a pair of runners coming into this race after good looking maiden victories at Los Alamitos.

The second trial will see the return of the Balgo Racing Team’s talented filly La Jaconde, the winner of the Grade 2 Robert Adair Kindergarten Futurity on May 17. The Favorite Cartel filly returns to action for the first time since running third in the Grade 1 Ed Burke Million Futurity.

Her main competitors in this race include Johnny Trotter and Stan Sigman’s Famous Shining Star, who was purchased for $250,000 at the 2019 Ruidoso Yearling Sale. In her last start, Famous Shining Star won her All American Futurity trial at 440 yards on August 21.

Ed Allred’s Single Brad, who ran in the Governor’s Cup Futurity, will head the third trial, while Bobby Simmons and Trotter’s Tuckk, the fourth-place finisher in the Grade 1 Ruidoso Futurity, will head the fourth trial.

This heat will also feature Laico Bird Stakes winner Best Of You and California Breeders Freshman Stakes third place finisher Jet Blew Dash. The Middle Pick Four will kick off with a dandy of a trial as M & G Farms, Inc’s Constituent, first in the Governor’s Cup Futurity and a winner in three of his four career starts, will take on La Feliz Montana Ranch LLC & MRB Racing LLC’s Better Version, who was the $247,000 high seller at the 2019 Los Alamitos Equine Sale. A colt by Favorite Cartel and out of the Separatist mare Make Over, Better Version posted a 1-½ length maiden win in his last start.

Ed Burke Million finalist Jess Lyndes Reason will also be in action in this heat. Scott Bryant’s Jess Agree, who won her trial to the Rainbow Futurity, and the stakes placed Sassies Blues Girl will face off in trial six.

The unbeaten Jess Spice will head the seventh trial, while Grant R Cox Revocable Trust’s Apollitical Gold, who finished third to the great Whistle Stop Cafe in the All American Futurity, will head the eighth race. Apollitical Gold won his All American trial and then made a monster late move to go from ninth to third in the All American final.

The Late Pick Four sequence will start in race nine with Ray Willis’ recent maiden winner Eastern Shore looking like the runner to beat, while the 10th race will see Larry Rice’s HR Princess Jess, who was moved up from seventh to fifth place in the All American final following a very rough trip. HR Princess Jess was fifth in the Grade 1 Heritage Place Futurity earlier this year. Reliance Ranches LLC’s Ed Burke Million finalist SC Divas Cartel Man will also be in action in this heat.

La Feliz Montana Ranch’s Elmer, who was fourth in the Grade 1 Ruidoso Futurity, will face All American trial winner Famous Cartel Jess and recent allowance winner A Dash Of Sign in race 11.

The final trial is a strong one as Levings Racing & Dunn Ranch’s Aint She Tempting, who ran second in the Heritage Place Futurity after winning the Oklahoma Futurity, will take on multiple futurity finalist Thats R Best Card and talented stakes runner-up Apollitical Patty.
