SUNLAND PARK, NM—APRIL 11, 2016—Shaena Carter’s Stella Lou is one of 75 juveniles entered in Friday’s 300-yard West Texas Futurity (G2) trials at Sunland Park.
A sorrel daughter of champion One Famous Eagle trained by Justin Joiner, Stella Lou is the lone winner entered in the West Texas Futurity trials. The filly made her debut with a half-length victory in a 300-yard, $17,850 maiden special weight race at Sunland on March 18.
Salvador Martinez will ride Stella Lou from the rail post in the third of eight trials.
LMG Racing Inc.’s Jess Prize Me, a bay daughter of champion Mr Jess Perry trained by Chris Zamora and the runner-up to Stella Lou on March 18, drew post 10 and will be ridden by Jesse Levario in the fifth heat. The Texas-bred filly was acquired for $36,000 at last year’s Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale.
The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the $100,000-added West Texas Futurity final on April 30.
