Ruidoso's Adequan Derby Trials Set Saturday

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—JUNE 13, 2017—On Saturday’s program are the trials to the $48,510 Adequam Ruidoso Downs Derby. First post time is 1 p.m. The derby trials run as the sixth through the eighth races.

The Adequan Derby trials are highlighted by the third trial, the eighth race. The trio of Maxx, Born To B Bad and Eaglelistic will be competing in this deep trial.

Irma Vargas’ Maxx was disqualified from his only two 2017 starts, including a close second in the $198,000 Sam Houston Futurity, however had an excellent juvenile campaign in 2016. He won the John Deere Sam Houston Juvenile Challenge and raced to a fifth-place finish in the Grade, $1-million Texas Classic Futurity.

Jose Amador Alvarez rides Maxx, a gelding by Pyc Paint Your Wagon, with the third post position for trainer Judd Kearl.

Melissa Slaton and Cody Bowling’s Born To B Bad won last year’s $59,000 John Deere Ruidoso Juvenile Challenge and was second by one-half length in the Grade 2, $151,000 John Deere Juvenile Championship at Los Alamitos.

This year, Born To Be Bad is on a roll with two close allowance wins in his latest two starts at Remington Park for trainer Tammy Kay Johnson.

Born To Be Bad drew the fourth position and will have Benito Jude Baca aboard.

Donnie Johnson’s Eaglelistic, a gelding by Flyingwitheagles, is well placed in these trials by trainer John Foutch. Two starts, back he was second by a neck in the Grade 3, $162,609 West Texas Derby at Sunland Park. He then had a troubled trip in his Sam Houston Derby trial.

Last year, Eaglelistic was third in the $81,549 Four Corners Futurity and the $268,464 Hobbs America Futurity (G2).
