GRAND PRAIRIE, TX—SEPTEMBER 13, 2021—Hes Innocent, a multiple graded stakes winning son of Hes Relentless owned by Priscilla Rodriguez, is one of 65 sophomores entered in Saturday’s 440-yard Dash For Cash Derby (G2) trials at Lone Star Park.
Hes Innocent will be making his first official start since July 19, when the brown colt scored a one-length victory on a sloppy and sealed track in the 400-yard, $197,000 Firecracker Derby (G3) at Delta Downs. He has earned $327,107 from eight starts, and his six wins include last year’s $371,000 Firecracker Futurity (G2) at Delta Downs.
Hes Innocent drew post 9 and will be ridden by Everardo Rodriguez for trainer Martin Trejo in the last of seven trials.
Other prominent 3-year-olds entered in Saturday’s trials include Pete A. Scarmardo’s His Time To Deal, a homebred Dealagame gelding trained by John Stinebaugh. His Time To Deal will be stretching out off of his wire-to-wire, 1 3/4-length victory in the 400-yard, $89,000 Texas QHA Sires’ Cup Derby (R) at Sam Houston Race Park on August 7.
His Time To Deal drew post 9 and will be ridden by Francisco Calderon in the first heat.
Da Devil Made Medoit drew post 6 and will be ridden by Jerry Lee Yoakum from post 6 in the fourth trial. A bay son of Fdd Going Grand trained by Lewis “Tooter” Jordan for the Geri J Partnership, the gelding was a prompt 2-1 favorite in the 400-yard, $208,000 Retama Park Derby at Sam Houston Race Park on July 31.
The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the October 2, $200,000-est. Dash For Cash Derby final.
