SELMA, TX--FEBRUARY 1, 2018--Retama Park will host the first four training race days for American Quarter Horse 2-year-olds on Friday. First post is set for noon (CST).

Fourteen training races are scheduled on Friday with races 2 thru 14 designated for 2-year-olds.

One Famous Stone, a $240,000 Ruidoso Sale Graduate previously named Famous Strong Eagle, will head Race 4 for owners' Jose Espinoza and Pedro Aguado. Brittany Tellez conditions the son of leading sire One Famous Eagle from the Grade 1 winning Strawfly Special mare Strength In Numbers. One Famous Stone is a half-brother to stakes winners Mr Perry Strong, Lonely In Front br. This is the family of All American Futurity(G1) runner-up One Fabulous Eagle.

In Race 6, Rancho La Cobra will start Cobra Stone 2, a $100,000 TQHA Sale graduate whose previous name was Zimmerli. Brittany Tellez will saddle the son of Grade 1 sire Captain Courage from the Remington Park Futurity(G1) winner Quick Moon Sign. Francisco Calderon has been tapped to ride the half-brother to stakes winners Midnight Sunlight and Luminaro.

Rancho La Cobra will also start their $60,000 Ruidoso Summer Sale graduate Tempting Stone, previously named Allamericandreamboy, in Race 11. Tellez trains the Tempting Dash half-brother to stakes winners Lookingforagoodtime and Flyingforunclesam. Froylan Ramirez has been named to ride the sorrel colt out of stakes winner Dreams For Lyndise by Takin On The Cash.

Jess JJ Watt Aw, a $50,000 TQHA Yearling Sale graduate, will head race 5 for trainer Trey Wood. Barbara Hieden Seber owns the Mr Jess Perry colt from the stakes winning and stakes-producing Strawfly Special mare Allurist. This is the family of Champion Panther Mountain. A rider has not been named.

Trainer Joe Garcia will saddle Valiant High, a $30,000 Ruidoso Summer Sale graduate, for owner Jerry Windham. Victor Urieta, Jr. is tapped to ride the Valiant Hero colt out of Also A High by One A High. The sorrel colt is a brother to stakes winner All So Valiant and half-brother to Remington Park Futurity(G2) winner Crater Lake.

The first training race for 2-year-olds, Race 2, will feature three summer sale graduates headed by Maria Garza and Remigo Figueroa's A Real Fast Dash. Joe Garza trains the $25,000 LQHBA Yearling graduate by leading sire Heza Fast Dash from the Streakin La Jolla mare A Real Tornado. Victor Urieta, Jr. will ride the colt from the family of three-time champion All American Futurity winner Real Wind.

Editor's note: It was called to our attention that several 2-year-olds starting in these training races at Retama Park have had their names changed after being purchased at last summer's yearling sale. We have updated this article and the training race program (PDF) to reflect the sale results of these starters.

Additional training race days are scheduled for Friday, February 16; Friday, March 2; and Friday, March 16. Additional dates will be added if necessary.

Training race overnights are available at 11 a.m. on training race days.

Horses stabled on the grounds are required to pay a $45 fee and ship ins pay $60. A copy of the front and back of the horses' registration certificate must be on file in the racing office to enter and for paddock identification. All fees are required prior to running.

Ship ins are required to have an original 30 day health certificate with verification of Flu/Rhino vaccination for EHV1 within the past six months. All Quarter Horses, Paints and Arabians shipping in must have a current negative coggins and piroplasmosis test.
